Favorite Writing Quotes?

Hello everyone,

My name is Canyon, 22 years old, two year Expatriate to Cambridge, England from the USA. I fix warplanes for a living and have had the privilage to visit beautiful Doha, Qatar. I've had a couple of automotive articles published, and am currently working on short stories. I've had a class with Ron Carlson. That's my basic bio, about the same as everyone elses. I've been enjoying the site for a while, but I wish there was more traffic.

Here's a quick idea, sometimes when I'm stuck for an idea, I find a good quote and write on it. Post your favorites, famous or personal.

I'll start:

The dragon is by the side of the road, watching those who pass. Beware lest he devour you. We go to the Father of Souls, but it is necessary to pass by the dragon.
-St. Cyril of Jerusalem

We cannot teach people anything; we can only help them discover it within themselves.
-Galileo Galilei

To put your life in danger from time to time... breeds a saneness in dealing with day-to-day trivialities.
-Nevil Shute

The art of life lies in taking pleasures as they pass, and the keenest pleasures are not intellectual, nor are they always moral.
-Aristippus

Censorship reflects society's lack of confidence in itself.
-Potter Stewart

Man must rise above the Earth, to the top of the atmosphere and beyond, for only thus will he fully understand the world in which he lives.
-Socrates

Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.
-J. R. R. Tolkien

I don't talk things, sir. I talk the meaning of things. I sit here and know I'm alive.
-Ray Bradbury

And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.
-John Donne

Looking forward to reading yours! Cheers.
