Hello...

Hello folks.

I'm new here, just found it after making a google search for writing forums. I was hoping to find a place just like this, and what do you know, here I am. I'm an amateur writer aiming at becoming professional, hopefully within the next five years or so. It's not what I want to do full time (for now that's University), but I love it and can't help doing it.

Just thought I'd introduce myself, Shawn K Hargan at your service. Thanks for the forum!

Hi Holly. I tend to write stuff that's more about people than action or plot. Sometimes that's a weakness, in that I get too focused on a person's traits and choices, but often it's a strength in that the force of a particular person drives my plots rather than the other way around. I often find myself writing futuristic pieces, more like Ayn Rand's Anthem or Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 than someone like Stackpole; the kind of prose that more just happens to take place in the future because there I can design the setting to fit the way I want it to.

I also write a lot of poetry, though most of it is personal enough that others wouldn't really get it unless I explained it to them (hurrah for useless poetry!), but some of it I'll probably share here. Thanks for the welcome!
