I have SATs that would roll your eyelids up like runaway window shades. I have a graduate degree from Duke University. And suddenly I'm the idiot. (See the forum on censorhsip that I didn't actually start, but had thrust upon me as a way to squash my voice, the one already closed now by a closed mind when my voice continued to provoke.)

It's more clear to me today than ever before how Nazism spread in 30's Germany. I guess every generation has to learn the same lessons for themselves. (Sigh.) But as for me I've learned enough not to want to be a part of such an un-American enterprise as this one.

For one that rejects the system so avidly, so you certainly use it to justify yourself. I enjoy you and your work, however you draw unfair conclusions and attack those that would support you. You began a discussion on censorship in a particular thread in which it was relevent, however when that discussion overtook the purpose of the original thread, no matter how relevant, it needed to be moved. It was not deleted, it was moved, and not any farther than just down the page. Idealogical and philosophical discussions are excellent ways to establish a common belief, or spread a worthy idea, but they are uniquely ineffective when action is needed. I sincerely hope you don't leave the forums over something this petty. We are not Nazi Germany, and we have no concept of what Nazi Germany was as individuals who have never in our lives experienced such things. We are a community of individuals who simply have the hope to maintain the community. If you are concerned that your voice was not heard on so important and decisive an issue, you would remain and continue to argue your case, persevere in your ideals, and not give up the way you are planning to.

It should be a point to you that you are allowed to leave. It is another point, that you would be welcome if you decided to return. The process continues.

I wish you wouldn't go. I've enjoyed what you've contributed to this forum, and I must admit, I've enjoyed arguing with you as well. However, in this instance I feel that you are mistaken . . . there is a big difference between censorship and excersing and taking responsibility for one's actions and having consideration for others. I think that this difference is what has caused all this trouble, and I hope sometime we can straighten this out for everyone.

Willy, I think you took this too far and too personally. The original argument was about word meanings. Yes, it fired into deeper things, but when I saw this message that you were leaving, I said "What?? This seems a bit strange..."

I don't really get why you are leaving something you've contributed much to, and we do appreciate that! So, all I can say is that I hope you get over it, and return. And if not, good luck!

I think there were valid points made on each side of the debate. However, when you stop and consider you are garnering readers of your work by posting on this site you should be a little more gracious. There is a lot of work required to maintain a forum. When I visit a home, I abide by the 'rules' out of courtesy to the host. If you feel that a wide open venue is more appropriate, start one yourself. I will tell you that you offended me by using Nazis as a comparison. To use flames to spark a debate normally gives me the opinion that the position held is a weak one.

PS - Why did you stipulate your academic merit? It takes more than schooling to become educated/intelligent.

One other thing. I know you will return to read the replies to your posting. I wonder if you will be courageous enough to respond.

Willy, I wish that you would realize that what Chrispian is enforcing is not censorship at all. Censorship is when he actually deletes things you say because he doesn't agree with them. Censorship is when he (figuratively or literally- take your pick) ties a gag around your mouth and forbids you to speak because you oppose what he believes in, or when he decides to ban you for speaking against him. It should speak volumes to you that rather than delete your points on censorship entirely, Chrispian created an entire thread for you to promote your views. When you regulate a discussion to make sure it stays on topic by moving irrelevant material elsewhere, or when you curb adult material for the sake of younger viewers, that isn't censorship. That's taking responsibility and having consideration for others.

As I said, I hope you return, as I appreciate much of what you have contributed to the forum, but if not, then I wish you all the best
