writing craptacular stuff

don't worry if you think your writing is bad. trust me, no one thinks that more than me. and it's true! but the other writers here are always willing to give you some constructive feedback.

I have this thing called a delete button on my comp. I've spent hours writing a story, read it over, and used the device. I've erased some pretty horrible stuff (Hey! That's another genre! Maybe I should've saved it!) at times, and have even erased some of my semi-craptacular meanderings. If they're average-craptacular, I save them to disk for when I'm on the Dr. Phil show. He can say, "WHAT were you THINKING!?! ExACTly when did you give yourself permission to produce this kind of garbage!?!"

well - one man's junk is another man's... well... inspiration?

I think that everything you think is just good enough for the bin should be posted on this forum somewhere (I guess you could even do it anonymously)... but it would be interesting to see what everyone classifies as bad quality...

That's a good idea Faraway...I'd like to see that.

As for craptacularness, I have a singular ability to hate my work. I don't delete anything, though, because sometimes it's not the idea's fault that the writing is bad. Also, reading over it again helps to keep one humble. Reeeeeaaallly humble.

"File 13" - hehe. one of my favorite phrases.

Odd thing is, no-one else ever seems to have heard it before. Good to know I'm not the only one who uses it!

Or, it just makes you want to crawl under the couch and die.

I don't think I could ever bring myself to show my early stuff. Stuff from... sixteen, seventeen years ago. ((shudder))

I think your view on your own work comes down to personal standards and perspective...

To know how good something is, I think someone with a diffirent perspective needs to see/comment on it, an 'outsider' if you will...

As for the File13 phrase - I'm afraid I haven't really heard it before... explain?

"File 13" = Wastebasket, trashcan, dustbin...

So called, due to the 'unlucky' nature of the number 13, thus File 13 is where you file the unlucky paper.... um... yeah... something like that.

(It's a bit of a throwaway phrase.... ..... oops. sorry. I seem to be dropping puns again. )

Hi nightshade,
I am sure your work isn't as craptacular as you think it is...didn't you know all writers feel their work is poopalicious? Hey, I write, and write, and fit, and rip, and scream, and write, take a pill, and start all over again, its a wonderful life! and now I have found a place to do all of these things in public! I am happy here, and I am sure you will be too. Lets see some of that odiferous work of yours! cdm, your killin' me,

-Lisa
