Lindi Into, joke:How many writers does it take...lightbulb?

Hi folks. My name is Lindi, out in Colorado. I'm 39, married 19 years, two kids, two cats, a Golden Retriever named Howard and a baby cornsnake named Zander. I also enjoy pottery. Very nice to meet you all! Here's a joke:

How many re-writes does it take to change a light bulb?

Answer: Ten.

1st draft. Hero changes light bulb.

2nd draft. No wait -- villain changes light bulb! Yeah!

3rd draft. I know: hero stops villain from changing light bulb. Villain falls to death. Cool.

4th draft. Lose the light bulb!

5th draft. Light bulb back in, but now it's fluorescent instead of tungsten.

6th draft. Villain breaks bulb, uses it to kill hero's mentor! Yeah!

7th draft. Fluorescent not working. Back to tungsten.

8th draft. Wait, I've got it: hero forces villain to eat light bulb!

9th draft. Big scene: hero laments loss of light bulb. Doesn't change it. This is good stuff! I wonder what Jay Leno will ask me in my big interview.

10th draft. Hero changes light bulb.

Welcome!

As managing editor of Lightbulb Magazine I have to inform you that your story does not meet our present needs. Perhaps if you expanded the theme and wrote from a number of other points of view, we would be interested. Today's work demands a larger variety of characters. (As a personal note, you might expand it to twenty five to thirty people to add some spice and variety.)

Good luck in placing your work elsewhere.

Sincerely,
A. Tipi Cal: Editor

Serious question: How do you make time to write with such distractions as kids and animals?

Hi folks,
Actually when I think about it, it isn't: "how many writers," it's: "how many re-writes." Oh well, funny anywayz. How do I find time to write? Well, my kids are older, 11 & 14. The 14 year old is mildly autistic, so I do spend a lot of time driving him to various therapists, part time school, and then I have to run part time homeschool, so he is more of a challenge than the 11 year old who would rather manage himself, LoL! They're both wonderful kids and don't demand much of me. I have lots of hours in the day to write. They're just not hours in a row. So I take the time as it comes up. I find waiting rooms to be fertile writing territory! Thanks for the kind welcomes ~ Lindi
