Penelope

Greetings from Vancouver Canada. Location of the 2010 Winter Olympics. (I will most probably have moved by that time but no point in letting that dampen my pride of place.) Gainfully employed writer of poetry, short stories & flash 'fiction'. I am a moderator of poetry on an American site and a moderator of flash fiction on a British site. I write because some inner force insists I do so. I won't quit my day job just yet but have two poems published in a community newspaper in Saskatchewan. Scorpio/Tiger for those who are interested in such things.

Welcome, Penelope.

Oh, we have another cat in the forum. What a lovely tiger it is though. But what exactly, may I ask, is flash fiction?

Flash fiction: Short chunks of writing that aren't long enough to qualify as a short story, and don't usually have a storyline either. More like a single scene.

My old English teacher used to call them "Nuggets", which I still think is a much better name for them.

You should have a look at the Flash Fiction section on Lit.org, because there's some good examples there (including one or two by yours truly ).

Thanks to all of you for making me feel welcome.

I think 'Nuggets' is a better word too because it doesn't contain the word 'fiction'. I have written several of them and all are fact based and under 100 words. Like a literary commercial.

Wow! Kurkurrage your introduction has a great deal of flair. I'm not all that shy anymore when it comes to posting my writings. The kind compliments I receive certainly assisted me in becoming more confident about the content. When a reader on another site advised me she was going to tattoo a quotation from a poem of mine on her lower back I felt as if I had arrived. Such praise is always welcomed and considered sincere. I read your week in review and was unable to make a comment which might be deemed knowledgeable so I kept quiet. It's nice to be here!
