hello

I'm a new college graduate, preparing to venture to France to teach English or San Francisco to work in publishing (where ever the wind takes me) in the coming months. I've been writing for as long as I can remember, and I have a severe phobia of publishing that I'm working hard at getting over. Please be as critical as you can with my work, as I truly value the opinions of fellow writers. I look forward to hearing from many of you and to reading your work as well.

Cheers!

The Javelina Named Eric
Hi Amie!!!!!!!
It's good that you have a fear of publishing in some sense. When you do publish, you will have better developed writing skills. However it can also be a bad thing, if you don't learn the business of publishing early.
I look foward to reading your work, and the fact the you said you wanted us to be as critical as possible with it indicates you are a thick skinned and mature author.
Your fellow writer Eric.

Greetings and welcome. We want one thing from writers here: write.

I well understand the fear of publishers. I have a cigar box full of rejections from before my first published work -- and TWO from since!

The first acceptance is a huge thrill, then it lessens in intensity until you almost expect acceptance.

Then you realize you could be actually SELLING your stuff!

Ah, those freebies do teach you.

Hi Keith...France and Frisco will decide for me. If I don't get the job in Frisco, I go to France...simple enough

I look forward to reading your work as well!

Welcome, Amie!

It is nice that you have found our little nest. Again, I say, do not fear the critics. Unless they start to bite. I look forward to reading your work, and seeing more posts from you. ^_^

Hi nightshade...
I do speak French (I studied in Paris for a semester), but I'm not sure that I know of any programs I could recommend for you. I know there are quite a few places in the New York area to take French lessons, and I'm sure if you're near any big city you could probably find something. I highly recommend keeping it up...It's a skill I truly cherish

Amie --

One little bit of advice. If you go to SAN FRANCISCO, do NOT say "Frisco" -- because many of the natives do NOT appreciate it. I was there for four years, and learned that much!

oddly enough, they also hate 'san fran'. the usually say 'the city', like it's the only one in california. sometimes they use 'the bay' as well.
