Hey everyone! I hope this forum is more active than the last few I've frequented. I can't describe how depressing it when I read someone's piece and I leave a comment telling them how much I enjoyed it and/or giving some feedback as to what could strengthen it, and I don't see a response for over a month. This is especially disappointing because I've actually found myself enjoying my peer's writing more than most of the novels I've been reading. So I'm just praying that I've finally found the place where people are actively sharing ideas.
But for the whole "introduction" thing...it's a little vague, right? I have no idea what to say. So how about I say this (and take from what it what you will ;D ): I'm Nexel, a university student and probably the world's only true "American". To explain what I mean, America is frequently described as the "melting pot of the world", in reference to how the cultures and diversity of the world comes to the country and intermix. Well, if America is the world's melting pot because it assimilates so many international cultures, then shouldn't a true "American" be someone who just as easily intercepts different cultural ideologies and behaviors and adopts them as his own?
The graceful displays of respect and honor displayed by the East Asians, the South Americans' strong love for family and friends, the emphasis on tranquility exhibited by the Polynesians, the religious fervor of the Middle East, the rich cultural heritage of the Africans, all of these things and many, many more should all be ideas and practices that should be adopted by anyone who considers himself a true "American". I try to take the best that the people of the world have to offer and improve myself as a person by making them my own as well.
I have no idea how that works as an introduction, but there's a little dip into how my thought processes work, so if you think that helps you get something of an idea about who I am, then great =) Looking forward to being a part of this forum!
