I created an account in an attempt to immediately post a sample chapter of my project, and it wouldn't let me. And who reads T&C and all that stuff? So I guess I may need to make an introduction first? I was going to anyway
So my name is Alexandr Black and I like to write. Every now and then. Been working on a hard sci-fi/horror novel. I will post that chapter in the sci-fi forum whenever it lets me, so I can get some feedback. It is in very, very early stages. I mean, I've only "finished" one full chapter and half of two others. I hope this site will be a useful tool for gaining constructive feedback for my endeavors.
Thanks! (:
Edit: So I just read the rules, and I do need ten (10) valid posts before I can create a thread in the creative forums. Not a problem. I already know one person here, so I can start by jumping into a discussion about his project.
I also feel I should share just a little more information about myself. I am the son of a writer. He is actually one of my biggest inspirations, but I don't think he realizes that. I have 2 sons of my own, a 2 year old and a 1 year old. Maybe one day I can publish something and put them through college.
The novel I'm working on is semi-hard science fiction with horror elements. A lot of it is inspired by HP Lovecraft, and some of it is inspired by Frank Herbert and Arthur C. Clark, among others. I say semi-hard science fiction because I want the science in the book to be as realistic as possible. I'm no scientist, but I have a deep interest in the sciences, and I apply my knowledge accordingly. For example, this isn't Star Wars where various planets of different sizes and densities are all somehow inhabited by a million different species, all of which can breathe and survive on said planets. We all know Star Wars is space fantasy with approximately 0% science anywhere to be seen. Some of my ideas are influenced by my personal theories. For example, I don't believe space travel by way of lightspeed would ever be practical for vast distances. Even at 1000x the speed of light, a million lightyears would still take 1000 years. Now it would be practical for a distance of 10-100 lightyears, which would take 3 days and 1 month, respectively. Anyway, in my opinion, an advanced civilization capable of traveling vast distances would do so by way of wormholes or stargates. I think the show Stargate Universe portrayed it as realistic as possible: send an unmanned ship across the universe, planting stargates at useful planets for all eternity.
