    From Europe with love!~

    Hey there, guys c:
Call me Mado, I'm new to this forum and networking related to writing in general, because I've always been too shy to talk about such a personal topic like writing, but as I've recently began taking it more seriously, I had to get over myself and start somewhere to keep improving.

Anyway, I was born in a Russian family in Lithuania, where I'm still residing, but not for long since my dream is to move to an English-speaking country to further improve my knowledge. English is my third language and I've been studying and improving it for 10 years. I'm currently 18.

I'm an avid Star Wars fan and writing fanfics set in that universe was where I started and never quite stopped; it's still my huge sandbox where I play around when I don't want to write anything too difficult. Right now two of my big original projects are a horror/drama novel about a cult; the story strongly focuses on character development, and a dystopian novella where I'm trying my hand at post-apocalyptic world building while trying to avoid cliches.
Character development has always been a favorite of mine and right now I'm attempting to adapt a writing style I'll be comfortable with.

I'm really excited to start being a part of the community and be of help where I can and hopefully get some feedback on my own works once I do scrape up enough courage to post something C:

Hi Mado. It's rare that I come across a person with English as a third language, it's a second language for most people. So you're doing a good job already if you write in English.

Why thank you :B I've always enjoyed writing in English more than my native language, Russian. Sadly when I'd write in Russian nothing would really flow the way I'd like because of the structure haha~

Wow! Your English is flawless It seems to me that non-native English speakers generally speak at least 2-3 languages. Whereas us native English speakers only speak one, hmmm ...

    Welcome

Thanks so much Aderyn! I wouldn't exactly call it flawless, but encouragement like this helps me get better and better c': And well, it wasn't my choice to end up knowing 3 haha.

Hello Mado, and welcome to these forums. For me, English is also a third language, as we're expected to be fluent in Dutch and French (I live in Belgium). The truth is, that in Flanders French is a forgotten language and most people take English as their second language.

    Welcome.
Yes, I do enjoy it! However I used to read more when I was younger, because as I go to a Lithuanian school I get loaded with tons of boring Lithuanian literature and don't really have time to read for enjoyment anymore, and when I do it tends to be English literature for my own improvement.

    Understandable, of course.

I just realised why your name sounded so familiar. Mado, or 窓, is 'window' in Japanese. Or was that not the intention?

That wasn't my original intention, no : D Mado is compiled from the two first letters of my name and first two letter of my surname. I've only recently found out that this little nickname has an actual meaning. Thankfully it's something as innocent as "window"
