I am A. Smith, no, not that one. The other one... no, not that one either.

    Hey everyone,

I'm one of those blasted Science Fiction and Fantasy writers, just not a world builder. I just like the stories of people thrust into strange circumstances. I've been working on a few things for the past couple of years, and just put my first piece of bad science fiction up on Amazon. It's supposed to be free, but I can't figure out how to do that yet. Working on other distribution channels that do allow free, maybe Amazon will price match. I have two other works, one undergoing a complete re-write, the other is at about 20k words.

Hi there, and welcome to the community.
“The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.” ~ James Allen

"Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best." ~ Henry Van Dyke

Greetings, A. Smith! Yep, I'm one of those, too. Seems to be a few of us around here.

    Good luck with your efforts!

    Best regards

Thanks for the welcomes. I need to do something about my signature, get my blog or twitter in there somewhere.

Hey, Smith, (You're not replicating in the system as in the Matrix are you?) Welcome. You are free to add things like that to your sig after your first 10 posts.

I hadn't intended to do anything of that sort. A. Smith is my pen name, or is going to be. Might need to change it if Agent Smith keeps coming up.

That would be a shame. I liked the Matrix movies.

Movies? I liked The Matrix, shame they didn't make any more.

Welcome! I think I know what you mean by 'world builder' but can you clarify this? With Amazon I'm fairly sure you cannot make your book 'free', you have to set a price for it then amazon will reduce the price over time and eventually it may become free.

Worldbuilders are people that put a lot of thought into their world, Tolkien levels of complexity, full of big ideas. I have smaller ideas a few small premises to anchor my world, but i like telling tales of people more than settings.

Putting your work on here is not a bad idea. Post in manageable chunks of around a thousand words and you will get people commenting on it. Of course not all the comments may be favourable, and people are more likely to point out an error than praise something done right, but that's learning for you.

PS. you will need to make those first few posts that sort the spam from the people first.

That's fine, I am used to forums. I generally know what to expect. My shorts are around 5000, first is on Amazon now, and will be free from my blog soon as I figure out how to do it.
