    Hi from Essex

    Hello.

I've never joined a forum before but peek occasionally.

I joined WF because some of the comments and suggestions by other members have been informative.

I started writing as a hobby when I was in my teens, and discovered it again 5 years ago. After I removed all the pages that were unsuitable for others to read, (to be honest, it was mainly along the lines of bed hopping) I had a ten page draft. I spent weeks typing it on a computer, backed it up. Only to clean the PC and give it away and find out the back up was rubbish.

This year it had its third re-write and I'm now happy with it, although no one has read it yet. I have tried to look for representation through Literary Agents but I'm finding half don't respond at all, the remainder "It's not what they are looking for at this time!"

I've only sent out about 14 emails so far, rather than flooding them all, in both the US and UK. I beginning to think there maybe something wrong with my cover letter.
    Any thoughts?

I read a selection of authors, but amongst my favourites are Clive Clusser, Robert Ludlum, Wilbur Smith, Raymond E Feist.

    Thanks

Hello Darren, and welcome. I'm also a big fan of Clive Cussler (even could 'snatch' him for an interview!) and read a lot. I know about the problem with finding an agent ready to represent you - I'm published but don't have an agent. Not that I didn't try (also got those responses like: it's not what we're looking for). So I gave up and tried to find a publisher. I was lucky to find one, even though they are ebook publishers. They do a great job. And I know they are looking for submissions at the moment, so just try and send them your query.

    Hi Darren Welcome to WF.
Robert Ludlum is one of me favourites too.

Hi Darren, and welcome to WF.

Try posting this question on the writing discussion board. I'm sure there'll be plenty of advice for you on there. Here's a quick link to it: http://www.writingforums.com/writing-discussion/

The sand of the desert is sodden red, -
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; -
The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks,
"Play up! play up! and play the game!"

Ah, Robert Ludlum. A brilliant author. The Altman Code, The Janson Directive and The Paris Option are just some of my recent favorites.
