    Question New at this.

I am looking over the cliff that is a fiftieth birthday. I'm trying to start writing several times a week to put down thoughts and ideas. Slightly over dramatic introduction, I get that. I am the father of a beautiful 2 year old daughter and husband to an amazing wife, both of which I'm not sure I deserve. Live in Northern Michigan and have worked in Food & Beverage most of my life, as a chef mostly. I want to conjure up past memories and feelings that I can weave into a narrative that will closely resemble my life but not try to replicate it. My favorite authors are Jim Harrison, Ernest Hemingway, Christopher Hitchens, E. O. Wilson, and Sam Harris. I have a posting on here with lots of views (Karl's Loss) but no comments and I'm not sure why that is.

    Tough Row to Write

I'm fairly new, falling over the cliff, and finding it hard to write WRITING on this forum. I have a few other forums that I go on, but nothing specifically to just write. Reading and responding on forums has been a supercharger for writing. But WRITING is an open-ended word! What do you say if you don’t have a specific topic? I have to know You, yes? I can’t just write in a cloud.

The other thing that comes to mind is about how to protect copyrights of shorter attempts? I need a lot of practice, practice, but what if I come up with something workable?

Well, I’m here. I would like to learn to write here, so I guess I’ll take things as they go.

    Hi Sam. Welcome to WF.
“The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.” ~ James Allen

Hi Sam, and welcome. I don't consider being over 50 (I'm 55, nearing 56) and still feel young at heart. I do have a full time job in teaching, but try to write in my spare time. Not a lot, but I do finish one novel a year.
