On the top row you will see Settings to the right of My Profile, click on settings, and on the page which comes up look down the left hand side and you will see a box headed My Settings, in that box you will see Edit Avatar, click on that, then in the second box down on the resultant page you will see the option Custom Avatar and further options to either get a picture from another website or load one from your own computer - So have one ready.
