Ah, a Texan! I'm writing a book set in Texas . . .anyway.

Welcome, I don't doubt you'll have a very positive experience here. I haven't had a negative so far, really hope you get the best you can from it!

    Good luck.

Usaravelli - Many of the Indian families in Belize came from Jamaica to work in the cane fields, and others are descended from people who were kidnapped, carried to South America as virtual slaves, and eventually made their way here. I know one man whose father was picked up off the street he was 15. He left home one morning, telling his mother he was going to look for work. She never saw him again. He was never able to contact his family so they never knew what happened to him.

Forest Home Village in the Toledo District is a mostly Indian village. The people are descended from the cane workers brought from Jamaica in the 1860s because there were no experienced canefield workers here at the time. I am related to the original settlers at Forest Home, and I suspect related to some of the people in the village today. That entire episode would make for interesting reading, but I'm too old to do the field work needed in Jamaica, India, and the U-S to tell the story properly.
