    How does one title an introduction? ^.^

    Hiya.

    I go by various usernames and pen-names across teh interwebs - usually Acid001, Acid Varrakin or my current T.G. Harrison. If I've met you on another board... hi!

    <Biography - skip if easily bored>

    16, Male, Australia. Author has been one of my topmost career aspirations since I was a kid - just after space-man. Because I have an anxiety disorder, however, I rarely showed my works to others for fear of embarrassment. Which, as it turns out, was a good thing, because my early writings were exactly the kind of poisonous rubbish you expect from a child who reads solely popular fiction and bad sci-fi pulp.

    A couple of years ago, after handing in a grade 10 creative assignment, my amazing English teacher told me that it was worth honing my written language skills. I wrote a couple more short-stories, and she critiqued them. Four months later, I'd finished my sixteen-thousand word novella and sent it to a nationwide competition. My story was one of twenty-seven shortlisted, from a total of one-hundred-and-three. That was gratifying. =D

    So yeah. I don't think I've quite found my writing style just yet: I'm trying different things from different authors and seeing what feels right for me. As for my influences, I truly believe that F. Scott Fitzgerald (stylistically) is the best writer ever to have lived. I have a nice list of adjectives stolen from The Great Gasby open whenever I write. Mwahaha.

    Plot- and genre-wise, I am a sucker for Huxlian/Orwellian social-sci-fi. I'm entering another nation-wide competition this year with an Orwellian, cyberpunk-y story. Since my writing has evolved beyond measure since last time, I am hopeful to at least be a finalist. =D My prior novella was a steampunk-themed detective/espionage story.

    </Biography>

    There. Done. Anyway, my mid-year exams are almost over, so hopefully I should have lots of time to be active here. I look forward to meeting you guys, and reading what you write.

    Auf Wiedersehen. =D

    Danke schön! :p

    Aussie writers for the win! Disillusioned as I am with our society (or, at least, with Tasmanian society), writers are the one thing that we need more of. We need poets and novelists to challenge the dangerous societal norms which have developed around us.

    Sorry for the outburst. Tassie is an intolerant state. I'm suffocating here. ^.^

    Keine Ursache!

    Uh ha harr, I too have a bad habit of poking out my tongue :p see?

    No need to apologise, one of my many hats is a smart-arsed-anarchist-bog wall-graffitist. *rolls eyes* No, don't ask. All I will say is, I do what I can to upset the establishment. +)

    And my son has not long returned from three months in Launceston during this, his gap year from Uni. He found it really difficult to break in and couldn't even get part-time work at McDonalds. Apparently we northerners aren't too popular.

    I'm sorry to hear you're not happy in Tassie. Would the mainland be any better, though?

    Oh dear. I have exhausted my conversational German. ^.^

    I like that job description. I would almost kill to have that on my CV. >D

    I feel for your son. Launceston is my city, and sadly the story doesn't surprise me in the least. We're like a bitter, angry hermit who lashes and bites at anyone with an unfamiliar face. Although, the McDonalds around here isn't a great place to work - trust me. IMO, he was lucky to get out of that one... ^.^

    I haven't spent enough time in the mainland to be totally sure, but if it weren't any better I would be cataclysmically shocked - and distraught. I'm counting the seconds until I can apply for a university in Melbourne. I love that city. ^.^

    Hey, welcome from another Aussie here. (We're slowly taking over.)

    Your writing sounds wonderful, I hope you can stow some of your anxiety and show us.

    Move to Melbourne, the writing scene here really is excellent. I strongly recommend the course I'm in. (Professional Writing and Editing at RMIT). It's a TAFE course. Full of connections, potential, writerly affairs. It's a real blast.

    Lulz. Ash, I admire your timing. =D

    LaF: I posted a story in the Fiction board just before, if you want to check it out. It's called Remorse and Redemption. Seemingly, I have to work on the format. >.>
    And thanks for the course suggestion: I'll be sure to take a look, when the time comes. =D

    hmmm, yes, so i see ... a little tip for you right here and right now is ...

    to edit your post at any time click on the 'Edit Post' icon at the bottom of your post
    select all text and align it to the left by going to the advanced options in edit posts
    then you may receive more helpful critique, not many like centre alignment i'm afraid
    but don't be deterred, it's all a learning curve and good luck with your writing, T.G.

    i'll see you around the boards and best wishes, ash
