Thread: Hey cats...

New here; thought I'd say "hi."

I am a freelance writer and also a patent, trademark, and copyright attorney. My freelance writing is mostly business and technical writing, as well as some article writing. My passion is in fiction writing, and while I've had some sales in that area, they haven't been substantial enough to pay the bills. My areas of interest are fantasy, science fiction, and horror, though I really enjoy any genre if I find a well-written, compelling story.

Right now I am reading a fantasy called BEST SERVED COLD, by Joe Abercrombie, which is a lot of fun. A friend handed over one of Charlaine Harris' novels on which the show TRUE BLOOD is based. I can't remember the name of the book, and I've never seen the show, but I'm going to give it a shot.

Also recently read LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, which I enjoyed (I liked the movie too), and I've been reading some "Season 8" Buffy the Vampire Slayer graphic novels, which are cool but not nearly as much fun as the show.

My favorite work of fiction is THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV, and it has been since I first read it when I was 19.

My other passion is music (listening to, as I have no talent for making it). Anything from Vivaldi to Pavarotti to Louis Armstrong to some good death metal (Opeth, for example) will do just fine for me.

I have also done some freelance writing last year (mostly for a site named Edubook) but apart from the fact that it didn't pay well, I also lack the time for article writing right now. My full time teaching job is taking all my time. I can only take some hours off to work on my latest novel.

Hello and welcome, steerpike. What an interesting name, any particular relevance to it? I must apologize, my clumsy fingers typed steerpie, before I noticed the mistake. That would have been an interesting name too.

My girlfriend wants to be a commercial solicitor, don't know how close that is to what you do, though! Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy this site better!

Fantasy of You - You might take note that 'commercial solicitor' can have altogether different meanings depending on whether you are in London or New York.
