Twenty-fourty mins am and pm works well, even if you have to get up earlier...you'll feel fresher for the med. I once forgot to set my timer and stayed 'under' for too long...when I finally got up I was so zoned out I had completely lost the ability to drive my head ...just for a moment...and it took me full thirty seconds before I could figure how to speak. It was very trippy and pleasant.
If you practice often you start to think of med as a place to go. I get my best ideas when I'm meditating...or what my SO calls 'being embarrassing'.
Well done with the audition. I want to go to the circus now!

Thanks Bourbon. The zoning out sounds fascinating Do you think you only did it because you're well practiced and got caught up in it? Or could a beginner achieve it too? I know that for meditation to be truly helpful it needs to be done on a regular basis. I would so love to get rid of my stage fright. Sometimes I wonder whether I'm in the right job since it scares me so much
I have to go to bed now, but I'll check back in the morning to see what you wrote ok?

I used to perform in cabaret.* Stage fright is often caused by a build up of adrenalin and once the show starts it gets used up as you go. I hope that's true for you.
The advanced med comes after a bit of practice, but it didn't take that long to start getting trippy.
Night night and sweet dreams
* that sounds a lot cooler than it actually was - it was pretentious comedy with avant garde jazz... very cringeworthy...

Well, we've got 18 months to do it, it should be enough time to come up with something.
I've never been to the States before and it would be so excellent to meet some of the people here on WF in person. If you see the tour dates and know I'll be coming to your town, PM me and I'll try to get you free tickets

Awesome, Ringling almost always comes to Dallas, and if it doesn't it will definitely come somewhere in Texas.

So Bourbon, tell me more about your life on the stage. What did you do? Comedy, jazz, or both? I'm sure it wasn't as cringe worthy as you're making out. How did you get into it?
What I'd really like to do is the cabaret circuits in Germany and France. Hopefully that's what'll happen over the next eighteen months before I run away with the circus

I belonged to a group doing politcal satirical poetry. We did performance pieces accompanied by a jazz quartet. Only lasted a year or so. I think we thought it was Berlin 1935. It wasn't Brecht and I wasn't Lotte...but I was young and enjoyed it at the time. Nothing like getting an 'un-right-on' laugh from a bunch of self-censoring intellectuals with a terribly clever 'nob-gag'! I wish I could say I sung Brecht in a sequin-frock...other than in the shower.
You should definitely do the circuits...
*Bourbon sings something about workers in the dockyards, in German*

Sounds like fun. I bet you where good and would have got the laughs whether your audience was bunch of wankers or not. When did you lose your idealism?

I had it knocked out of me by accidentally writing soap operas instead of threepenny ones! Sad story.

Joanna, congrats! I'm so happy to hear of your success. Please keep us posted...I'd love to know if you'll be near Pittsburgh once you know. I can't imagine doing what you do and love when you write about it.

I finally got the pics open, what a beautiful act. I am terrified of heights and can't imagine doing what you do...and singing at the same time!
