I remember doing something similar in school. Our RS teacher was a fundamentalist christian, and never let us forget it. He even tried converting us once.
So one day, when he insisted we have a 'class prayer' to help us for the day, I blew his beliefs out of the water. Everything I knew about Science that destroyed as many christian fundamentalists beliefs I told him, and everything he said as a comeback to defend his precious beliefs I destroyed too.
Every time I spoke he just had his mouth hung wide open, until he stormed furiously out of the classroom.
It made me feel good, I got cheers from everyone in the class, and despite the teacher's multiple attempts, I wasn't even told off because I was 'expressing my views'.
To this day I don't feel guilty. If it makes someone feel better, then by all means let them keep their beliefs, but if they take it too far and try to force their beliefs onto you, then you have to intervene. Perhaps not as harshly as I did, but intervene nevertheless. Maybe not even revealing the truths of christianity like I did, but just kindly tell them that your beliefs go against those of christian beliefs.

You did the right thing, Charlie, no doubt. And, as someone else pointed out, you probably saved the kid's job. Anyone who preaches (and that's basically what he was doing) down a phone to a customer, doesn't deserve the second chance that you've now given him. And I'm not saying that because I'm predominantly atheist. God, prayers, and the Bible have their place, and that place is not the workplace, unless it has something to do with God.
Again, you did the right thing.

I wouldn't feel guilty. It's good he has found something with his religion but to force it on other people by offering to pray with them over the phone and such is not appropriate.
If I were a customer and he started that with me, I'd just hang up. I have nothing against religion, I just don't want to be force fed it

I would've told my boss as well. I certaintly wouldn't have told the guy that I would be intending to tell my boss, because I don't like overly-religious people.
