irritated!

Usually I'm a pretty optimistic person but this week has just made me totally depressed. I attended an interview at university to progress to the next stage of my studies but think I bombed. I've been trying to get new work placements and i keep hearing i'm too young with no life experience. This really p***ed me off. How can they say that?! I go through more a month than they ever will in their lifetime...that sounds bad; like i'm up myself but its how i feel just now. I mean, I have to get screened once a month for liver damage and tumours because of the stupid crohns meds I'm on, I constantly feel tired but manage to work full time and study - irritates the hell out of me when people say stuff like that!

On top of that, I haven't written anything in about three weeks and that's bothering me too. Going to do some tonight

Sorry for the rant, needed to vent

Those university higher ups are usually twits in my experience. Are you going for a masters or doctorate? That's impressive. In high school, I considered pursuing a higher degree, but after three and a half years in the university environment, I couldn't take it anymore. When I found that one of the Phds running a program at my college had only scored a 720 on his SAT (he came out and told me for some reason, like he was bragging. Moron. BTW, if they don't have SATs in Europe, you get 300 or 400 points just for filling in your name, so you can take it from there on how qualified this guy was) I pretty much decided I didn't have much more to learn from those people.
The life experience thing is always bullshit. How are you supposed to get experience if they won't let you do the work you need to build experience? I hate when they use that excuse.

Good luck.

No fu**king life experience! I would have slapped the git in the mouth. How the hell does he know what life experience you have? Just because you haven't experienced much in the particular field you're studying in, doesn't give that asshole the right to say you haven't got "life experience". Malone's right: how do they expect you to get experience if they won't let you do the work.

My boss is an asshole in that way. We've had this new apprentice for two years now, and my boss still has him getting tools, making up basins and toilets, and doing a general sweeper-upper's job. This time last year, work was going really good, we had plenty of jobs on, and I said to my boss to give me the apprentice and I'd go on my own and tackle some of the jobs to relieve him. Within the first week, I had Keith piping toilets and basins, soldering joints, and bending pipes. He said to me after the two weeks: 'fuck me, Sam, I've learned more with you in two weeks than I had in the entire time I've been with Kenneth.'

I like to see young apprentices (and young people in general) given an opportunity to learn their trade. It really pisses me off to see apprentices treated like slaves. Another one of my workmates (a guy who's just finished his time) said one day to Keith: 'go and get me a pair of multigrips.'

I turned and said: 'what?'

He said: 'I'm just telling Keith to go get me a pair of multigrips.'

I said: 'Keith's doing his work. Go get your own damn multigrips.'

'I'm a qualified plumber, he's an apprentice. It's his job to get me my tools.'

I mean, WTF! 'His job? His job is to learn how to become a plumber, not to lift and lay tools to your hands! I won't say it again: get your own multigrips!'

'You're not my boss.'

'Oh do you bloody think so? Why don't I just ring Kenneth and ask him who's in charge when he's not here? Do you think he'll be happy that you won't take commands?'

I hate people who do things like that.

Sorry, Lilac. I'm using your thread to vent!

Hope it works out.

Sam.

yeah the life experience excuse is pathetic!

Malone its a phD i'm going for. Completely agree, they are a bunch of twits. They are supposed to be non-judgmental - what a joke

LOL Sam - its alright, venting's good. Glad you told that guy his place, some people just let authority (or perceived authority) go to their heads
