Depression... sigh.
One thing I hate these days is that I get very depressed.
I take medication for it, dont get me wrong but it only does so much.
Now I admit, I have been diagnosed with a mental illness, I have been listed as having manic depression though I have little signs of the manic part.
I go to therapy, I get myself treated, but it still creeps in.
These days I suffer from lack of inspiration, lack of drive, I have so many ideas but it seems impossible to get them working.
Anyone else get a depression like this?
How do you treat it?
I get frustrated by it too, making it worse. I really like some input here.

First of all, don't think of your self as depressed, don't give yourself a label. Subconciously it's harder to get rid of something you consider a part of you.
You say you go to therapy and get treated. Don't consider it getting treated, but as a top up of happyness. Feel free to change the wording on that. =P
Most people suffer from a lack of inspiration. But a better way to find it, is to see the beauty in the little things in life, as some great novels and short stories have been started because someone saw a women drop her shopping, and wondered about it.
You see, inspiration can't simply be found, it finds you^^
Don't let it get to you.

If you've not been on meds for long it might be taking you a while to adjust. The brain's biochemistry is a delicate thing, so don't be too hard on yourself. You should also allow yourself fallow periods. Creative people do not have to create all the time. Why don't you get yourself to a place where you feel more even, then try working in a routine. Forget happiness. Happiness is not normal, and aspiring to it unhelpful to those blessed with bi-polar. Contentment is much more realistic. I work best when in contentment mode. Hopefully you will learn to see the black dog coming towards you and learn to keep out of its way as much as possible.
One day at a time.

I can't offer you anything meaningful. I wish I could. But it sounds like you are doing all the right things; so hang in there. I'm sure more folks will weigh in that have been there. Best to you.

I'm just like you describe yourself. It really sucks. Until I found the right anti-depressants, I was miserable and wanted to kill myself. I had to try nearly all the available meds before I finally found the one that works with my brain chemistry. Each one seems to work better or worse for different people, so after you've given the one you're on now a chance and it still isn't helping, don't be scared to ask your doctor to try something new.
You need to be on an ADD med too it sounds like. I have the same problem you describe of being full of ideas but unable to concentrate and get them out. I've started taking meds for that, and it helps immensely. Ritalin and Adderall are effective, but they're basically just speed, which scares me. I'm taking Strattera right now which is somewhat new, non-stimulant, and helps quite a bit. I've heard good things from other people about it too.
I recommend watching The Devil and Daniel Johnston. It's a film about a manic depressive musician who overcame his serious mental illnesses to write some of the best music I've ever heard. Really great stuff. Here's a link to watch it online.

I'm on this now. My wife was sick to death of me forgetting things and jumping from one thing to the next and me being off in Joe Land, as she calls it. And everyone I know seemed to think I was ADD -- except for me.
I haven't been on it long enough to see a major difference, but really I'm starting to. I think it's going to be a huge thing for me.

Hey. I'm sorry your not feeling well. Strangely enough, I've been feeling the exact same way at this time. (I'm on meds too)
I have an idea. Everyday keep your eye open and write two things down in a journal that made you happy. It doesn't need to be big. When I did it my friend bought me my 1$ breakfast and I had a successful conversation with a soon to be friend. I didn't manage to keep up with it for long, but when I read my tiny list even now, it gives me a smile.
Also, if Malone is right about the ADD (but, really everyone gets unmotivated/uncreative when depressed) I might suggest switching meds to wellbutrin. I'm only saying this because thats what i'm on, but it helps with depression and ADD (smoking too, an added plus...if I smoked)
Best of wishes, I'm sure you'll start feeling better soon.
