So I have a few odd stories this week that I think people might enjoy. I started taking Tae Kwon Do here in Seoul as a way to get some extra exercise, and I'm pretty tall about 6'4. So when I got measured I got measured for a 190 cm outfit. Anyway I was talking to someone who actually knew some english and he said the instructor enjoyed laughing at new comers because they didn't know how to tie belts. So... being the crafty foreigner I was, I went online and looked up the proper way to tie a belt and was pumped knowing my suit was coming the next lesson. So the next lesson comes a few days later and... my suit was huge, I'm tall but pretty thin so I was swimming in it! Luckily it actually ended up working pretty nicely once I figured out how to tie it tighter and the pants actually fit quite well! So I was pumped... until I take out my belt. Which happens to be a children's belt, it was much too small for me ot tie properly! So I get out there trying to tie my belt and getting laughed at until one of the ten year olds came and helped me tie it how they apparently do it

.
So! I get out and start working and it's like me two other adults and 15 kids. But it's fantastic we are stretching and eventually he starts showing us some easy things... well not understanding Korean I didn't exactly understand it perfectly. My instructor didn't have much sympathy... he got out a bamboo cane and thwapped me on the ass with it! And looked at me like "Try again!" Then all the kids laughed at me.
Anyway... so then we had to do these exercises (running etc, my forte) and my team won. And as punishment the other team had to carry the winning team two laps across the gym. Well... my opposing kid was like a ten year old.. and I'm a pretty tall adult. He was pretty sad so... you know I dragged my legs and helped walk with him. The instructor saw, hit me on the ass again and made us do four more laps without me helping! Poor kid...
So at the end of my first week (Friday) I was getting ready to go and the instructor (He looks ot be early 30s) Comes up to me and says "You, me" and then made a drinking motion. Then he pointed to saturday on the calender. So.. Saturday night I ended up going drinking with my instructor who explained to me in very broken english that... you know his instructor beat him.
I think it was a threat.
Best week ever.
