Here is my question, though. Why couldn't you get your horse-sitter in the house in another way. They could even break in and replace the window for you (cost less than driving 8 hours I imagine). Anyway, a little confused on that one.

The damn windows are double paned with blinds in between them. The door has a huge single pane of glass in it, but someone broke through it once so I had it replaced with safer glass. That does cost more than a drive home right now.
I don't want to guess how much replacing or fixing those stupid windows would cost, they'd look weird too. You know, being sad, I missed my cat too, and my bed.
As for a house, it seemed like a great idea. Everyone kept saying--oh yeah, renting is terrible, you're throwing money away. So I bought one, the market went to hell and its a big pain the arse. There are foreclosures and squatters all over now. I so wish I was just renting a little crappy apartment. 30 years is a long commitment.
