Warm Day in the Backyard

My week has been pretty lousy.

But....

The sun is out and shining brightly, hardly a breath of cool breeze in my hair, and our yard is beginning to look like someone lives here. We sprinkled wildflower seeds in the flowerbeds and grass seed in the yard earlier this week. The deck is all sprayed clean, as is the table and chairs. The new sun umbrella protects my precious freckles. Our backyard is shaded with a leafy green canopy.

Layla (our kitty) lounges in little bit of wild grass that hasn't yet been cut. She doesn't like being on a leash; she yearns for bluejays and robins that are just out of reach on the deck railing. Tiki torches line the railing, full of bug-repellent oil; just waiting for the first warm night of the season.

My light lunch tastes of warm weather; a kiwi and saltines sandwiching summer sausage and cheddar. My toes wiggle with joy at being freed after a week of rain. Right now I don't even care that I have to leave for work in less than an hour.

The laptop and wireless internet are wonderful inventions that make this afternoon possible.

Being geographically fairly close to you (southeast Pa), I'm able to share the same gorgeous weather! Much better than that awful rain and wind on Monday! Unfortunately I sit in a building with my back to the traffic whizzing back and forth behind me. I do have my window wide open though and the breeze is delighful on my back (even if the traffic is loud).

I love this weather. Who has the Mojitos?

At least you have a back yard. I have tons of cement that houses eight lanes of express way with noisy sounds of traffic. On my right are neighbors I don't know. On my left are neighbors I don't want to know. In front--more cement with little bushes they call trees. I have a balcony but can't hear myself think because I'm in the direct path of a runway at DFW. But I'm still smiling.

I'd love to have a deck but the kids and I settle for sitting in the grass. It sure doesn't bother them and so for the moment it's not bugging me!

Yesterday was awesome weather and I dried sheets on the clothesline. Today has been perfect weather, cool but not cold and just rainy enough to smell damp and clean. Sometimes I'm too much of a hermit and sit inside until my son (2 1/2 y/o) asks me over and over to 'go outside'.

When I watched him run over the grass in the pure exultation of having nothing overhead but sky I felt like a very rich woman for a while.

Thanks for this thread, Joi, I really needed a smile and a nudge to think about the good things.

That wind was awful! No mojitos today, all I have is some Captains and vodka and Kool-Aid....

If I'm sitting in the house I have to keep the front windows closed because the traffic is so loud - I don't like it cause then I don't get a nice breeze through the house and we end up using the air conditioning more often. But the back of the house is pretty well blocked.

We're really close to the shore, so we're warmer when others aren't and cooler when everyone else is hot. Used to get me all mixed up when I had to go to Philly for school.

Terri- I like having a backyard. I got a whiff of a job offer recently, but it's in Long Island and I'm not sure if I can deal with so many people so close.

Foxee- That's what bugs me about sitting in the grass; the bugs! LOL
Your kids sound like such a joy to be around!
