    Got Stabbed

This morning I was making myself a bagel for breakfast. I was kinda lazy, so I didn't get myself a cutting board and instead just held the bagel. Also, I took the first knife I found, which was a steak knife. So the odds were stacked to begin with. I stabbed my hand with the steak knife, not a slice, but a good inch deep in my palm. I bled more than I have in a long time, it spurted a good two inches (onto my bagel, which I never got to eat). I put my hand under water and applied pressure, and within ten minutes it stopped bleeding. I wasn't sure if I hit a tendon or a nerve, but I was sure I needed stitches, so I headed to the ER. They put some glue on the cut and gave me a tetnis (however you spell it) shot.
I called work and told them I wouldn't be able to come in that day because the doctor didn't want me to lift any heavy objects for a week. My job is basically carrying crates up and down stairs, by the way, so I was pretty screwed. So I called my boss, who hates me already because I've had to rearrange my schedule several times, and told her I wouldn't be able to make it. She told me to find someone to cover my shift.
The two other people who work the same shift as me can't make it; one of them is on vacation skiing and the other needed to go to therapy that day.
So I showed up to work today, and tried doing everything with one hand. It didn't work, it's hard to carry heavy stuff with one hand. I've got someone to cover most of my shifts.
Basically, I almost lost my job today because of a fucking bagel.

    -Not this time, I guess...

Sorry to hear about your accident. I'd say your health should be more important now...

Look for another knife in the future.

    Clearly, knives must be banned.

As must bagels. Why can't everyone eat croissants, which are clearly not hazardous and quite tasty? Or even better, let's ban all breakfast pastries and go back to mandatory cereal. No one's ever been stabbed by a spoon before!

Thought they've tried before, but that is a story for another day (one when no one has any interesting stories).

At the hospital where I work, the nurses in the ER call a slice across a persons palm the "bagel injury."

Maybe just stick to protein shakes, or let the guys at my bagel store handle the cutting.

    To follow up:
The glue they put on my hand was supposed to last a week and gradually come off as the cut healed. Yesterday the glue came off and my cut started bleeding. I'm probably going to have to go back and get stitches, but my schedule is completely packed until Monday. Bagels must hate me.
