Crappy!

If there had only been one incident this week I might have handled it okay. When it rains..... it pours!
It began early Monday morning when I had a revelation about a certain supervisor's comments to me about another employee. She'd violated the worker's privacy by revealing confidential information to me about this person. She'd done this the week before and I'd spent the weekend worrying about the situation of this other person. While sorting mail Monday morning it dawned on me that I shouldn't have been told about this at all. I came home and typed out a five page complaint against this supervisor and copied it to the union as well as the worker. When I went to work that evening I posted a complaint on the 'ask a question' bulletin board my employer has on the workfloor. I didn't reveal the names of the people involved except my own and asked for a meeting with upper management to discuss this supervisor's innapropriate comments to me. Of course, most who read it assumed it was of a sexual nature and it created quite a stir. I spoke to the union rep and the worker prior to having a meeting with management as well. The supervisor knew immediately that she'd been tagged and rushed around having little meetings with everyone while avoiding any conversation with me. [smart move]
On Tuesday, my father called me and told me there was a bed for him in the vicinity of where I live and he had to be moved 340 kms on Friday to take up residence. His call came after all of the health care coordinaters had finished their work day so I was in euphoria knowing he'd be moving closer to the family and lengthy trips to visit him would be ended. YAY!!!
The following morning I spent time trying to track down officials who would have information about the move. By 1:30 pm I was told the place where he was to move couldn't accept him because he uses an electric wheel chair and they have no way of accomodating him. BOO!! I decided to become a little more proactive and arranged for a tour of another facility near where I live. *sigh* I also arranged for my father to get his own electric wheel chair because the one he's currently using is a rental and he wouldn't be able to take it with him.
On Wednesday morning, there was a meeting with the manager where I work. He wanted to clear it all up with one meeting but we held out for two because he hadn't read the complaint and only had heard a portion of my concerns about the indiscretion of the management team's comments.
Thursday morning this was wrapped up with another meeting but unfortunately the supervisor could not comprehend the impact of her actions. To bring the consequences into the right realm I decided to request a written apology rather than being satisfied with a verbal one. At the date of writing this, she still is making up her mind as to whether she will put her acknowlegement in writing. To my way of thinking (which is worker biased I admit) the pact between worker and employer is a two way street. If an employee breaches the trust with their employer they can be fired and often workers write up apologies to save their jobs. I feel a member of management should have the same obligations but of course they see it differently. heh!
On Friday morning I drive to Queen's Park residential care facility for a 10:00 am appointment. I'm given a tour of the place and find it more than suitable for my dad. I come home and call the person responsible for placements of the elderly in facilities. She tells me Queen's Park is not suitable for my father because he doesn't need extended care and only needs intermediate care but promises me she will discuss him being placed there with the 'team' on Monday.
This has been a roller coaster week where I ended up with a collosal headache on Thursday night so I booked off sick. I suppose I'll be interviewed for my attendance when I return to work next week. BLAH!

Well, that seriously sucks Penelope. I hope you find a better place for your father. Does health care cover part time care givers?
About your work, you are quite the scrapper. Anybody who knows you should have thought before they opened their mouth to you. I wonder, is the supervisor new there?

This week will be better.

Thanks Kimberly - my headache developed into a total body ailment so I'm still battling it. Both extended and intermediate care are live in and not part time. It's based on how mobile the person is. My dad is on the edge of being 'extended' but not quite.
The supervisor? She seemed to decide I would make a good mentor to her. I don't want to mentor a boss! I told her several times too. She isn't all that new and her mother works at the post office too. I personally think she's just trying too hard and gets acute motor mouth afflictions when she's flailing. It's painful from a spectator's standpoint.
