Moving

My husband has kind of reached the top in his career at his curent workplace. The only way he could go any higher is if someone died or retired. So we've been looking around fo a new job. Can't find any in state that pay well enough. But that are quite a few elsewhere. Particularily on the east coast, a long ways since we live in Oregon. Unless he wanted to do Golf course irrigation then he would be moving every few months with each new job. I am not doing that with kids. So we are thinking of moving. Has anyone moved a long distance? Do you have any advice to offer?

I'm worried about finding a new place, selling our houses, buying a new one. I would be willing to rent for a while untill we buy a house but I don't know if it would be a good area or not. Then school, kids, the move itself. God, just too much to even contemplate.

Well, I don't have much experience with moving (except in and out of dorms), but if you end up somewhere in New Jersey, I can try to point you towards a good school system at least. We have really high car insurance though, and houses aren't cheap, especially in northern Jersey. And it's crowded. If you like being near cities (pretty easy to get to NYC, or Phily), then I'm sure you won't mind. I'm not much of a city person though.

I must say it's an extremely traumatic experience if you have a family to move. Packing everything up is a pretty depressing experience, and then you've got the journey and then of course the settling into an entirely new place. The financials of it are enough alone to put you off. Then there's kids to reabilitate, friends to leave behind and new ones to make.. There's no doubt that it's a pretty difficult experience. That said, sometimes a fresh area and the oppurtunity to reorder ones existence can be exactly what you need. Like so many things in life, it's difficult but infrequently necessary!

Most of the oppertunities are in Carolina and Virginia. Although I did find one in Texas. That's not too bad. I'd rather not move at all. I really like where we are living. It's quite and peaceful. Not far from the mountains or ocean. The river is right across the street. There is just no jobs here. Unless he's willing to take a pay cut. Then I'd have to get a job. I'd rather not put my kids in daycare. I'd rather move across the country than have someone else watch my kids. They're young they'll recover quick.

It wasn't the decision that I was worried about so much. It's more the process. I was hoping someone had done it and would have some tips, pointers, little insights into unexpected things.
