Novel Idea
Due to Jasmine giving me the idea I enrolled in the writing a novel in a month contest. I wouldn't have even considered it otherwise. Writing a novel of 50,000 words in a month seemed daunting. I signed up anyways and now am working my way through the task.
This isn't easy. Typing a story with such a large volume of words is incredible. No wonder I prefer short stories, flash fiction and poetry. I hope I finish.
If anyone wants to see what it's all about here is the web address.

my progress to date is 22,709 words .. which make sense. I've never written a novel before and decided to do it on a topic I'm familiar with. Also in the style I'm most comfortable with .. 1st person narration.

Pen, I joined up as well so you and Jasmine can feel a little better knowing another poor soul is suffering along with you. I should cross the 12,000 word mark tonight, hopefully. I've never written anything more than 3000 words and now I'm writing 3000 words in one sitting! This has been a blast. It's quite a lot of work. More than I could ever imagine and I've learned alot about my writing from this experience. I hope to see more people from here taking part next year.
I'll be pimping it big time on our site for next year

Yahoo! I'm past the 1/2 way mark!!! (25,478 and still writing) I'm doing more writing because I am on holidays this week. I was able to get a good head start. I doubt I will be able to do more than 2000 words once I am back to work.

I've been managing an (almost) steady 2000+ a day. Yesterday being +1!!
I haven't started my words for today, but at the close of last night I was at 12,527. 25% done!!!
Pen, I will catch yours in December, Hun! So, make sure you email me the link again then, or I'll forget!
Well done to everyone participating. Good to know we're all still 'on track'!

The link? Seeing as it's the main page I hope you don't forget! After all you have to submit yours too! I will probably send you a panicky e-mail so I can figure out how to submit the 'novel' for verification. You are way better at finding your way around the net.

I'm still hovering under the 20,000 mark, but at least i'm still ahead of schedule.

Not a week - 10 days. I was on holidays and got into a writing mood .. Yes .. the novel makes sense and has a theme which winds all the way through it. I picked something familiar and .. well .. not really comfortable to write about .. but easier .. I got sidetracked down another avenue and had to delete some of it. only 800 words though

So sorry to bring up this topic again, Penny, but it's not as hard as you may think it is. The key to getting a 50,000 word novel, basically, is having something to say and the ability to say it well, as well as put high amounts of action and fast-moving plot and well-written dialouge into it, as evidenced in the stuff I've written. That is, if ever you want to give the high school English curriculum a desperately needed makeover. *cough*TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD*cough*
*cough*THE STONE ANGEL*cough*
Besides, you only had to type 50,000 words in a month. That's nothing compared to what a certain contest has for you -- writing a novel in just three days. Over Labour Day weekend. Now THAT is daunting!
