I got promoted to Editor in Chief

I got a promotion to Editor in Chief of an online and in-print magazine. Pretty excited although I have reservations because my editing and punctuation sill needs a bit of help. I'm up to the challenge to learn more and I'm excited to read and review submitted materials of up and coming writers and filmmakers. Good thing there are plenty of available resources here at the Writing Forums.

Very nice. I am sure you will enjoy it and learn a lot.

Grats. You know what site needs new editors? MSN news. I'm constantly catching mistakes in those articles. It drives me crazy!

Well done - Did you also get a pay rise?

MSN Errors, pay raise and a call for submissions.

I agree. I know my editing skills aren't anywhere near as respectable as other executive editors, but I know it's really bad when I catch a plethora of mistakes on MSN. I've spotted quite a few on Yahoo, and a major mistake in the paperback print of The Hunger Games last week. It was so bad, I wrote it down somewhere and placed it on my bookshelf because I was going to make a point to bring it up sometime in the future.

As for the pay raise, yes. I did get a considerable pay raise (although still not a big enough one to boast about.) But a pay raise is a pay raise and I get free advertising space for the novels I've authored myself. I also get to personally select which fiction and non-fiction books get advertised and full page reviews, plus interviews with the authors. To me, that's cooler than a pay raise.

So, if anyone has any recommendations for books in the horror or mystery/thriller genres from authors (self-published or otherwise), that would be a great help!

    Congrats!

    Thoroughly well-deserved, I'm sure

    ABSOLUTELY!

It's really horrible. It's also not confined to just one department, either. I just don't get it - Why can't a AAA site like that have writers that can effectively QA their own work if there's no editorial oversight for some submissions? And, if there is editorial oversight, what the heck are these people doing?
