I won.
No more five-hour round trips to the cancer clinic.
From now on the local quack monitors all my thyroid levels.
I'll only go back to the clinic if the readings become too high.

Good for you, OX. I'm still trying to get my doctors to do tests at my local clinic. Twice a year I have to drive 70 miles to Belfast to have my thyroid and adrenal levels monitored, which basically involves them taking my blood and nothing else. It's quite ludicrous.
Kudos to you for sticking to your guns.
Edit: I have Addison's, in case you're wondering.
Ox that's fantastic! Way to go.
Sam, I'm sorry I had no idea.

Congratulations Ox! What great news to start off a new year.![]()
Congratulations, OxAnd maybe you could use Ox's example to fight for your own GP proxy, Sam? I would. I think it's awful that they give such a time-wasting inconvenience to someone already dealing with an illness.
Glad to hear it, Ox-Man!
Do not think it a kindness.
Congrats Ox. Beat it into a pulp, never to be seen nor heard from again.
First this one story...
Sam, that’s just too bad.
Even though you say you’ve had no luck with the doctors in Belfast, it may still be possible to get them sorted.
This is what I did, and what could work for you. I wrote down what I wanted and why I wanted it, made sure I had all the points covered, rehearsed it until it was stuck in my mind, and when the time came, first I primed the doctor by warning her I had some questions. Then I asked her why exactly I had to attend the clinic. Once I got the answer I wanted – which was pretty simple, as I already knew why they wanted me there – I then put my case for not wanting to make the trip. Here, you need to marshal everything you can, and it has to be part of that advance planning so that you don’t forget anything or sound hesitant.
Okay, in my case, I was able to play the “old and feeble” card – a slight exaggeration, but still - which may have appealed to her nurturing instinct, however I’m sure you could come up with an equally creative reason not to make the trip.
By firstly forcing an answer to my question, I had the girl over a barrel. She had nowhere to go, once I said what I wanted. Okay, she might have fallen back on the old excuse of that’s not the way we do things here, but I guess I was lucky in that respect. She was prepared to listen to reason. If it had happened that other way, I might have appealed to her ability to think outside the square.
The main things are to look the other person squarely in the eye when you state your case, speak confidently but not overbearingly, and let them know you are most unhappy with the present arrangements.
That’s all I did.
Good luck
