Well, last Wednesday I left for vacation directly after work. A friend and I went to Tennessee for an extended weekend. After a horrid start to the vacation on Wednesday night, everything else was smooth sailing. The only thing we planned to do, but weren't able to do was to ride (?) on a zip-line. Now that it's off-season, they run only on the weekends. There are zip-lines closer to home, but cost twice as much. The Autumn colours were present, but clearly had only just begun. Mostly there were yellows and golds with only a bit of orange and a smidge of red.
We went to Ruby Falls and rode the Incline Railway in Chattanooga, then stayed the rest of the time in Knoxville. From Knoxville we drove daily to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge to do things. Saturday was the biggest day of fun because we went to Ober-Gatlinburg then on the way back to Knoxville, we stopped at a small amusement park-like area which had some crazy extreme rides in addition to go-karts and mini-golf. I don't know how to search on Google for the ride that my friend went on, so I'll do my best to describe it. It is a ride that has a single arm with a two-seat contraption on the end that is free to roll over and back again. The whole arm rotates in a huge circle going at 60 mph. It's probably about 70 feet up in the air so we're talking a pretty big circle. After a few rotations in one direction, it stops with the riders at the top and then goes backward. If you've ever seen the shows about extreme amusement park rides on the Travel Channel, you've seen this ride. There's an arm attached to the two seats with a video camera that records your screaming antics, which you can then purchase, of course.
Sunday we had a leisurely drive through a quieter part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
