Well, just pulled into town yesterday after a family reunion at the lake, where my gran-dad built a cabin. There were a little shy of twenty of us altogether, friends included, some of whom had to sleep in tents. Four days of hanging out on the deck telling stories, drinking, hiking and fending off mosquitos. Fireworks were blown on Canada day.
On the whole, very fun. I was expecting more drama, and there was some, but it was probably the most functional get-together we've ever had. I'm almost over the sunburn, and still a little sore from the hauling supplies, especially the propane tanks which power our lights and fridge (no electricity unless we use the generator).
Got to catch up with a cousin I haven't seen in a decade, which was cool. Since I last saw him he's started a family which he brought along, wife and three hilarious kids. The last night there was probably the best, because me, him and my bro hung out at a place near the cabin called The North Point, a shore of flat rock sloping into the lake, until sunrise, polishing off something like fifty beer. I'm not a big drinker, but there was a fair deal of that going on for me, them and everybody. I never got drunk drunk, though. Just buzzed.
My aunt set up and ran the whole thing, so we all gave her an enormous cheer on the last night. She certainly earned it.Almost a perfect reunion all around, or as perfect as things things can be. Not a serious injury to count. And there have been some of them up there.
