Well, looks like I'm an uncle!

Well, my sister just gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl! We officially have a new member of the Spatola clan. She named her Gianna (Gia for short, while she's growin' up ).

I wish I could have been there; but she's healthy, and that's all I care about. I'm an uncle!

My mum hasn't touched alcohol for six months either so, I hope there's a brighter future awaiting us all (corny, I know). She cried more than my sis did .

I had to get all that off my chest, sorry 'bout that. I'm just. . .happy, and I never really thought I would be again. .

Congratulations Uncle Bruno! Sounds like mum and sis are doing good, too. Way to go Mum on sobriety.

There's nothing corny about happy endings, we all hope for them.

True that, thanks Gumby . I just heard that she had to have stitches after the birth; just proves how difficult it is. I'm not sure I could hack it.

I'll always be there for my new niece; that's a guarantee.

Congrats, Bruno. I'm not an uncle and don't think I will be one anytime soon, unless my man-slut of a brother isn't careful. Glad your mom and sis are doing good.
Let's see if my above post is deleted without explanation. Wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks man, appreciate it . Puts it all into perspective, a new life. I can get some pics up soon, hopefully.

Congrats, Bruno! Such a beautiful name! Be a good uncle and offer to watch the baby in three months or so, so Gianna's parents can have a night out!

    Welcome to Uncle-hood, B.

Now -- prepare yourself for the labour of having a niece. You'll need a pocket full of candy for treats, a little extra money to sneak to her when Mum refuses, a billion hugs to hand out liberally, and a steely eyed gaze and threatening mein when the boys start creeping around.

    Best of luck, my friend.

I already have those things, ha. My steely gaze is famous round these here parts *wiggles toothpick*. Looks like I'm all set . Thanks for the heads up.

Thank you Alan. I love the name too, but she's having second thoughts. She thinks the baby "doesn't look Italian enough for Gianna", lol. She's thinking of Adriana, which is nice too but. . .I like Gianna. Ah well.

She hasn't even cried yet, even with my big dog Boycie barking his ass off; weird.

Not doubting you brother. But those other things are more important at the moment, especially the supply of hugs.

Hehe, well, I have a limitless supply of hugs, but I hear what you're sayin'. I'll make sure she gets every last one of them .

    Thanks for the advice.

Tips from someone who has been an uncle for forty years:

Be a distant uncle-be in the child's life about three days per year, but do amazing things. It will impress the child far more than an uncle who is there every day.
They call me Spooky, Spooky Mulder. A joke to my peers and an annoyance to my superiors. Whose sister was abducated by aliens when he was a kid, and now runs around with a badge and gun yelling to anyone who is listening that the fix is in and when it hits, it'll be the crapstorm of all time.

Really glad to hear about your Mum, Bruno.
That's so great considering how things were around the time you first joined here.
Really happy for you and your family, and maybe a bit jealous of your sister. (I'm not even 25 and I'm getting clucky already?!)

I'm sure you'll be a killer uncle... uhh, figuratively.

Hey Bruno, congratulations, and enjoy being an uncle.

This big dog Boycie? You haven't trained him to say "Large Cognac please, Michael." in a South London accent?
The sand of the desert is sodden red, -
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; -
The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks,
