    I find it absurd that......

I was wondering through a USED game/movie store today and as always I found myself drawn to the series section. there is a healthy choice of scifi series at the local shop and from time to time they get in a couple new shows. As it turns out someone the week before had brought in the complete farscape series, which is one of the few shows I love but do not have , when I saw this naturally I reveled in the memories I have of John Crichton and the adventures of the crew Moya. I undoubtedly had to add this to my extensive collection of scfi dvd's. This brings me to the point and the set up of rules for this game

    RULES
    1. Before your state what you find absurd you must begin the line with I find it absurd that......

    2. If this is a story that actually occurred in your life, I and others would enjoy reading about it. but this is not necessary if you just find something wrong and want to point it out or just to vent about a subject.

to finish the inspiration behind this game

I find it absurd that the first season of farscape is $80! I mean I loved the show but that's ridicules

I hope that you will enjoy this as much as I have

I find it absurd that in my country they have developed a pretty amazing system for dealing with child protection cases and for financial reasons, that don't even make sense, undermine the basic requirements that the system needs to work.

The system is a way for social workers to work with families to make them own their recovery process rather than have it enforced on them. Things always work better if people want it rather than if they are being told to do it. It takes time though and intense work to get parents to understand that this is the change they and their children need and for them to get over this huge distrust they feel towards social services. To be able to do that the caseload of the social worker needs to be no higher than 12.

The system has proven itself in the pilot study. In the end it gives the results we want. Less children being removed from their families. When children do get removed they return to their families faster. Overall involvement of social services with the families is shorter as they are able to do it on their own again faster. These results are amazing especially given that before this system the opposite was happening (more children being removed, and so on). The system has been implemented through out the country which cost a huge amount of money as every social worker had to be trained to do it and caseloads had to be reduced dramatically (meaning more social workers had to be hired). Even financially this system has proven its worth as in the long run this costs much less money than the way things were done before.

Now the government wants to cut down on the costs of social services and so they have come up with the mind-blowingly stupid solution of increasing caseloads and firing social workers. Politically this is a very popular thing to do as it saves money on the short term and let’s face it, nobody likes us social workers anyway. Caseloads are going through the roof. Very capable and dedicated workers are either loosing their jobs (I will be one of those by the end of May) or are burning out fast (because they are still trying to do the job to the quality that they did when they had 12 cases, except now they have over 20 cases). It seems that every week a colleague is not returning to work, because he or she has burned out completely and can no longer cope. I have seen colleagues that look like they are dying that is how tired and worn out their faces look. Even financially these cut backs don’t make sense as in the long run this will cost much more than the 12 case system does. The creators of the system are pointing that out to the government as much as they can backing it up with all the arguments and statistical material that they can. Nobody gives a shit. They want to reduce costs now and they don’t give a shit about the long run.

Sorry for my rant, but as should be very clear by now, I find this very absurd

I find it absurd that if I were to give a cigarette to every beggar that asks me at a traffic light on my way home from work, I would give away a box a day.

I find it absurd that capable people. who want to adopt, are so very hamstrung and handicapped by the system, while it is next to impossible to take a child from a "family" where the parents are negligent, incapable, disfunctional, and screwed up. It's because of a 1980 law passed by Congress that states that the family (uncle/aunt/grandparent, etc.) is the best alternative for a child.

Growing up in a disfunctional home, and seeing kids living by their own wits because of absentee or incapable parents, it breaks my heart that such a screwed up law is allowed to persist. I've written legislators/Congressional people, but all I get is double talk and the run around. People on the net don't seem to be sympathetic either. I guess I'm just pissing in the wind on this.

I find it absurd that the catholic church in the Philippines goes so far to say that using contraception, even in married people, is immoral and a vehement defiance of the "teachings of the church," well and in fact the Pope already clarified this matter.

Come to think of it, is contraception prohibited in the bible?

Somewhere in the bible (I'm not a bible scholar) the justification comes from a phrase "Better wasted in the womb of a whore than spat onto a rock." I'm paraphraing, but it's close.

Along Fuhrer's lines, I find it absurd that because I'm a bachelor (not entirely by choice) I'm supposed to suffer in absolute celibacy, or swallow my pride and marry some soul sucking dream crunching shrew with delusions of grandeur. Close all the strip clubs and other outlets where I find relief from the absurdity of life.
