    Spring is here (almost)

Today it was a balmy 9 degrees, the sun shone, and I wore shirt sleeves at work. Soon the daffodils will show, and Starlings will appear on the verges, teaching their young how to forage. I love the onset of spring.
The sand of the desert is sodden red, -
Red with the wreck of a square that broke; -
The Gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of schoolboy rallies the ranks,
"Play up! play up! and play the game!"

I heard a cuckoo the other day, most surprised, it seems very early. My daffodils are green spears, the garlic is showing and I have been planting seeds.

Was that 9 degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius? Just kidding.

    I want Spring. Now.

The canada geese are back on the lake really early this year; they started arriving about three weeks ago. I'm hoping that this is an indication that we're also going to have an early, and good, summer this year.

Summer in the UK. That's the season when the rain gets warmer, isn't it?

Its worse in the west, there is a bit in Angela's ashes, that sad book you couldn't imagine anyone wanting to read, where he is describing the West of Ireland, he says it rained so much the condensation ran down the walls and they had to go to Church to try and get dry. I Welsh comedian the other day was talking about the Bible "40 days and 40 nights, must have been the dry season, do you know I was eight before I realised you could take a kagool off?"
