    Musings of an Actor

This morning, in church, I was in a play where my role was a married guy. Of all the things I've done in my life, this was the biggest stretch for me as I've never been married. During rehearsals, I had to be coached on every line. The compliments I received were glowing, so I guess I pulled it off.

The closest I came to that was Kristi, and this where the timing is kind of funny. We broke up sixteen years ago, after being together ten years. Just after Christmas, completely out of the blue, she called me (she had tracked me down through Facebook. We ended up having dinner. She's retiring from the Air Force soon and she's looking for somewhere to land. The biggest problem is that even though I'm single, I'm settled. She still (at age 42) wants to travel and party like there's no tomorrow. I was under the impression that most, if not all, of the 42 year old women in this country were settled down (excepting strippers who just don't get it and party girls past their prime).
They call me Spooky, Spooky Mulder. A joke to my peers and an annoyance to my superiors. Whose sister was abducated by aliens when he was a kid, and now runs around with a badge and gun yelling to anyone who is listening that the fix is in and when it hits, it'll be the crapstorm of all time.

Actually, many women from about 38 on are dangerous creatures again. They may still themselves for a bit, nurture and make a home, but that seems to wear off and they'd really like nothing more than time to be who they are. In olden times in many places, women birthed and cared for babies up until about 7, 8 or nine, and then Dad, uncles, aunts, community got them. Well, mostly the boys, but to an extent the girls too. I've come to see how that makes sense.
Congrats on doing a super job of your play. Living with someone is similar, especially for so long, and taught you more than you know, I'd imagine.
