    Coming back home

Today is my last day in Iraq.

It's been almost forty days since I've been here. A lot of things about this trip were good. Some things were bad, but mostly it was good. Really good.

I've found another home here, with love and family and friends. I can't believe what I've missed out on all these years. I've cried a lot these past few days. I don't want to leave.

I met an amazing person. We're the same age. He's perfect for me, and he feels the same about me. It'll be at least six months before we see each other again. Till then we'll stay in touch through emails and phone calls.

Today, Iraq. Tomorrow, Kuwait. The day after, America. I'm really not looking forward to the long plane ride. I'll probably just sleep through most of it, but if I don't, I have a nice, juicy Great Gatsby to pass the time.

I've missed you guys on here. This site is a nice constant. I like to think of WF as my universal home. I hope I hear from you guys after I post this. I'll probably be on the internet for a while tonight. At least until the electricity goes off.

I know how hard it is to leave family and friends after such a nice long visit. I cry for at least half of the trip home when I leave from such a visit. And you've met someone special too, how wonderful!

Have a safe trip home, we will all be happy to see you back. Sorry you have to leave a piece of your heart behind.

it sounds like a love story straight out of a novel. for your sake, you might want it to end like a romance novel!
i've never liked that part of the world too much, there's always sand in my face. Hope you enjoyed urself more than i did.

Thanks guys. I just got home today. During the long flight I thought about the idea of moving back to Iraq for good. I don't know exactly when, but sometime after high school. After falling in love, spending time with my family and making new friends, I just don't see a future here in America that will make me happy. I toured the University of Basra while I was over there and am considering going as an international transfer student. It's a big decision, and I know I need to think it through completely.

This trip was very clarifying, I think that was the best part about it. Right now my future is looking really clear, and it's a good feeling when you know exactly what you want at such a young age.

Iraq is the place for writers, some of the very earliest writing comes from Mesopotamia, Southern Iraq, around five thousand years ago. Mind you that was for accounts, they didn't start writing stories like the adventures of Gilgamesh down until a bit over two thousand years later, still well before most people. Being a writer there will require a high standard.

Seriously, good to hear from you, glad you had a good time and are safe and well. I hope the trip was as good for the rest of your family.

Thanks everyone. Olly, I'll probably end up being a teacher or something. It's hard to make decent money off just writing. I have to have something where I'll know I'll make a decent living. Of course I'll always be a writer, but not just.

    Sorry I'm late.

I'm glad you had such a good time there Dream. Maybe "Coming back home" was the wrong title; sounds to me like you've left it behind, which is sad. Travelling is strange like that, I find. It can send your emotions crashing into each other.

Any way, it's good to hear everything went well. I'll just wish you luck. I hope everything works out for you, and when it does, I'll be here on WF to say congratulations. . .on time too, not a week after the event .

Thanks Bruno. You're a gem. I really hope everything works out too. And I'll be up on WF to tell you the day it happens. Which, rest assured, won't be for at least a year or two.
