Thread: Need to rant...

So I was at an awesome jazz concert earlier tonight. McCoy Tyner, the legendary jazz pianist/composer, AND the legendary Gary Bartz together at the jazz club.

The concert was fantastic... up until the point McCoy walked off stage forty minutes into his set. Some moronic a-hole was video recording the performance and that pissed off McCoy. Rightfully so. No respect at all for the artist.

I feel bluddy robbed. I want to punch that damn idiot right in the face. It was such a great performance, completely ruined by some idiot who doesn't know how to respect the performers.

Stupid idiot. Curse him to never again record anything due to technical difficulties.

I can understand why McCoy was angry. But he could have simply told the guy to put his camera away or he'd have him thrown out. Or he could have said, I'm walking out if I see anyone with a camera. He's not considering his fans, who paid good money to see him. I'd be just as pissed off at him.

BTW, I don't go to many jazz concerts, although I'm a fan of 40's and 50's jazz -- Byrd, Dizzy, Miles, Coltrane, etc. But I did get to see Sonny Rollins -- one of my favorites, and perhaps the last living legend of that era. It was pretty awesome.

I think I have to agree there. He could have easily asked for the guy to put the camera away, right? Sounds rude to just walk off because of one person, but never mind. Did you get a refund then?

If anything, I would blame the venue. I agree about the guy with the recorder not having enough respect for the musicians and the rest of the audience. It seems he only cared about himself. As well, this guy McCoy is right to be angry about such a situation, but he seems a little full of himself pulling a stunt like that. There are several other ways to deal with the situation. Being good at what you do, becoming famous and achieving legendary status, does not give you sudden priveledges.
