    Flu shot = pointless

I took my flu shot a few days before school started, but then I got the flu the day before yesterday. I could barely sleep for two nights because of the fever and all the coughing and puking. Bleh. On top of that, I have asthma so it gets really bad whenever I'm sick. I also lost FOUR pounds with all the vomiting over the last few days.

I went to the doctor today and she gave me some meds and now I feel a bit better, but I still can't go to school, which sucks because I'm gonna have to make up a crap-load of work.

As if all this isn't enough, I recently joined this website, and I posted like 3 posts and then I GOT BANNED!!! I just sent a message to the administrator apologizing for any offensive comment I may have left and asking him/her to please lift the ban...still waiting for a reply.

    So sorry to hear that!

My husband and I prefer to make sure we're eating good food etc and supporting our immune systems with more traditional methods so we can avoid the flu shot. I have asthma too so I know how you feel. We figure that if there's a chance we'll get the flu anyway we'll just concentrate on weathering it naturally.

Thanks Tigerfeet. What traditional methods do you use? My mom make me do cultural methods. She made me stick my feet into a hot pot of green tea as soon as I got the fever. Weird thing was it actually worked, though I think normal hot water would have been okay, they didn't have to waste all that tea.

What site did you get banned from? And why?

Looking back on it I think it's pretty funny now. It was this Muslim site I came across and I thought, "Why not?" So I signed up. After a couple of posts the thing said I got banned for "disgusting spam" and that the ban would never be lifted. Ah whatever, I guess I'm not Muslim enough for them.

I don't think I said anything that would have offended anyone, but I did post a thread about my idiot chem teacher saying how he "sucked ass at teaching". I don't know, maybe they ban people for cussing.

Okay so I just went on the site again and I realize why they banned me: I suggested to this guy that he should get a mohawk because he wanted to get more into his Native American culture. I posted a mohawk picture and one of the users was like, "Please remove your filth. There are children on here, blah blah blah..." And then the admin banned me. Very stupid. So now I'm kind of paranoid because I'm worried I might get banned from this site too.

This was the picture I posted:

Hahaha, probably. I have to say I feel kind of guilty now. I feel like I traumatized those poor children.

I'd try not to worry about it Dreamworx. I'm a christian convert to islam and I'm still trying teaze out the 'islam' from the 'culture'. It's not always easy. From what I read, for men, hijab consists of being covered from navel to knee. There's many that need to learn to lighten up, in any religion.

Now for traditional medicine, your mom's absolutely on the right track! I don't know if the green tea has anything specific to do with it (it might, nutrients (and toxins!) can be absorbed through the skin). What we do when we've got a fever, is first we'll take a hot bath, really hot, then it's bundle in covers to sweat it out. The fever is an immune response to infection. The bugs that are making you sick don't like heat any more than you do which is why your body cranks up the thermostat.

I also make bone stocks regularly. My husband was sick for the past two days and this morning I woke up with a bit of a sore throat. I'll be having a big bowl of stock tonight and going to bed early.

I'd love to hear about your cultural methods! My culture is 'American' so most everything I know I have to find through research.

You're Muslim? That's so cool. When did you convert?

That is so true, and most of it has to do with the media I think. There's a big difference between culture and religion.

Well after my mom soaked my legs in the green tea, she made me get into bed and wrapped the blankets around me like a cocoon, but she had me stick my feet out of the bottom. Then my aunt came over and had me gurgle hot water mixed with salt and spit it out three times. Honestly though, I think the pills work way better.

I converted probably about a month ago.

That's really interesting that your family has the same solutions as my husband. He's Native American and brings that heritage. Now there's two cultures, each on opposite parts of the globe, that have very similar remedies. That can't be just chance.

Yes, it can. There are no copyright laws for natural remedies.
