Ill, doing nothing.... and annoyed.

I had the joy of having my tonsils out last tuesday and as a result have last week and next week devoted to full relaxation and bed rest.

When I inititally got told that I would be able to have that time to myself, (away from my 9-5 job working for the NHS) I thought that it would be an ideal time to sit, write, get some of my book research done, and just work on my stories.

Well a week has gone by and since I've arrived at my parents house (away from the loudness of London and in a place with unlimited internet access) I have spent the first four days waking up for ten minutes to play some puzzle which would then throw me into complete exhaustion and knock me out for a further two hours.

Of course now I got over that little joy I have reached what the nurses warned me would be the peak of my pain (logic unknown as to why it's seven whole days after my op I reach the peak, if anyone knows please do tell) and can't concentrate long enough to actually write anything or even read a light story/complaint on the forum!!

What on earth is this?? I mean who neglected to tell me that to have a simple op like removal of your tonsils would be so damn inconvenient?? I have never been so drugged up in my life (a fairly large sized bowl containing all my drugs sits constantly beside me) I have watched some fairly crappy tv programmes simply because I was too knackered/lazy to find the remote and none of this was put in the warning pages of my discharge form. My brain is mush and I blame the NHS. (Though not too severely as I do enjoy their paychecks)

So far I am not enjoying any perks of my tonsillectomy and I gotta say am fairly disappointed. I don't know why we were born with sodding tonsils anyway....

How was my week??

Guess.

Make sure you save some of the painkillers to enjoy when you're not in pain anymore.

I remember hearing, years ago, what a big op. a tonsillectomy is for an adult and I'm really sorry you're finding that to be true.

Also, don't forget, any such procedure will leave you feeling washed-out and maybe even depressed for a while afterwards. Just focus on building up your immune system, rest as much as possible (forget work!) and pretty soon you'll be right as rain again. And getting excited about new ambitions - that's when you'll know you're better!

You have my sympathy, 'Plum', and I hope you're well soon (this post is a good sign).

Love, Virginia

Wow, that's a real bummer. I'm about the only person in my family that still has their tonsils (despite having had tonsillitis when I was eight), and after reading this post, I really hope it stays that way.

Hope you feel better soon, Plum. They say you're supposed to eat a lot of ice cream, and that can't be a bad thing.

Don't tonsils produce like a type of helpful bacteria or something?

Lol, you tell me one good experience someone has due to having their tonsils still in and I will gladly take back my words.

Thanks everyone for the support, if it's any consolation I am enjoying being a kid again to my parents, they make me dinner and let me have the TV remote when they're home it's like I'm five again!!

Alas Tiamat, they threw out that idea ages ago and have gone with discouraging you to eat ice cream in favour of eating crisps and crusty bread instead.... apparantly it scratches out the infection and decreases the chance of mass bleeding from the throat.... go figure.

Tonsils are part of our lymphatic drainage system.. we needs them for assisting our lymphatic drainage and releasing those toxins..

that's just facts. I want hard evidence of someone who actually benefited from their tonsils
