Apropos of absolutely nothing, there was this pointy-headed bloke on the ABC – which is an Antipodean version of the Beeb – the other week, who calculated that if the world’s entire population were packaged up into one-metre-square boxes (three to a box) and piled up in a mountain one kilometre high, they would all fit on the Isle of Wight.

Hey, you do know those Palm trees are only good to 2020? That’s when the Gulf Stream will have stopped running and northern Britain will be once again gripped by an Ice Age.
