Nervous Hair

I'm nervous at the moment.

Tomorrow morning, I'm having my hair cut. Not such a big deal, right? And it isn't, but I've never had one before. I mean, I've had split ends done, but that's it.

I have not cut my hair in almost a decade. I've had two hairstyles my entire life: a short, layered mess of curls, and the longer, straighter style I've been growing out for said almost decade. As of tomorrow (if all goes correctly), it'll be halfway down my neck in most areas.

It's a necessary change. I like it, and people frequently compliment me on it, but my hair is just too long to be convenient these days. It sticks on chairs, on my purse, gets shut in doorways, get eaten by the dog, etc, etc. So I'm taking off about two-thirds of it tomorrow.

I guess I'm nervous because I don't like change. And I don't know how good this will work. My face shape is very atypical; it doesn't even loosely fall in any of the "standard" categories (round, square, diamond, oval, heart), and not much looks good on it. Plus, I'm a bit worried that cutting it will bring out all of the curls again, so it'll look like there's a mop situated on my head. A very fuzzy mop.

I would ask my stylist for advice, but the last time I did that, it was a bad idea. It was for a formal event, and apparently what she said and what I heard were not quite the same things. I looked like Princess Poodle Puff. (I have a picture this time.) (Now's not a good time to be stylist shopping either. I've been to two stylists throughout my remembered life (I assume someone did something with my hair as a toddler). The other one makes me stand up, because she's too short when I'm sitting. And that's with the five inch heels she wears. There's only so much hair she can pull out with a brush too.) The one good thing that I'll say about her (the one I'm going to) though is that she doesn't cut off too much. Her saying (even just with split ends) is that she can always cut more, but she can't glue it back on.

Nerves, nerves, nerves. I thought maybe getting this out would be better, but I just feel more nervous. Blah.

Oh, did I mention that I have to go to a photography studio on Friday and Saturday to get an ass load of pictures done? So, in case I ruin my hair, I can capture it on my once-every-never trip to a room with a professional camera person. (Although this is perhaps not the worst thing. The photograph my mother has hanging in her hallway is. So Operation Steal That Picture will be underway shortly. There's a bright note.)

Hopefully you're donating the cut hair to a cancer organization. Personally, I don't like really long hair.

You should post before and after pics.

If it's long enough, I will. I'm not entirely sure what the requirements are these days; they kept changing.

I was thinking about it. That might depend on how much I like it though.

Those stuck up cancer bastards should take what they can get.

My last girlfriend donated her hair and it was much shorter than yours. Hair anywhere past the middle of the back (being generous) freaks me out. I mean no offense, just my opinion.

10 inches, but a lot of hair places will make you lose 11 because the hair tapers when you put it in a ponytail to cut.

It's done. It doesn't look anything at all like what I asked for, but it's ok; I don't dislike it, so you know. I've been told I have to wait a few days before loving it or hating it, because it is such a change.

Malone - you know, I can never tell when you're being serious or not. It takes a bunch of hair to make a wig.

Kast13 - none taken. My father hates long hair as well; he's been trying to get me to cut it for years. I don't know; I don't mind it long. I think it depends on the person.

2.0 - thanks. She took off 12 inches so that it was just below the shoulders. I am going to donate it.

I was joking in this instance.

I bet your head feels great. I had my hair almost to my shoulders once, and when I cut it, despite the crazy way it looked, it felt amazing. Clean, cool, light.

I thought as much, but like I said, I'm never sure.

It feels kind of weightless. I didn't realize hair was that heavy. I like the feeling though; it's nice. And I won't have to spend ages brushing it, which is a plus.

The thing that gets me every time I get a drastic haircut is the length of time it takes to dry.

Malone requested before & after pics. I second it =D

Sorry if this is too random and crude, but at first glance it seems that your bear is holding his extremely large... well you know.
