Attempted conversion...
... don't worry, it's been put down.
Why is it that when you become the most comfortable with your life some god-head invades it, drives your sister mad, which then prompts said sister to attempt to convert you?
For fucks sake.
I am an atheist. Not only am I an atheist, I am also an extremely happy, content one. And when someone tells me that not only am I wrong, I am not truly happy, I begin to get angry. Very angry. I believe my words were, in a low-pitched bellow, "You have no idea what the FUCK I believe."
This was in response to my sister's assertion that I was too prideful to accept the "Truth." When, in reality, truth is just that, an assertion, not a proper noun.
If there's anybody who is of a religious stature that may feel offended, then continue feeling offended, because this has got to stop.
Respect people's beliefs or non-belief. This means to not blindly conjure notions that a person's life is "sad." It also means to bring out a fucking dictionary, because if you are a Christian and you don't know what the word "liturgical" means, then you should get your bloody head out of your fucking ass.
Also, don't think that because of your religion there is a line by which you can judge all things. Just because some truth (that is, things that have been verified and tested) oversteps the imaginary boundary, it does not mean that it is wrong, just that you are wrong.
With any other opinion, it would be immediately controverted; but not when you hold dear to your heart some notion that only those who accept Jesus Christ are saved, and that God looks through some blood-covered spectacles and eats bread which is actually flesh.
Excuse me if I sound a bit hell-bent. But, according to my sister, that's exactly what I am.

Yeah, there's nothing more annoying than someone telling you that your opinions and values are completely wrong
Easy to say, but I'd just shrug it off and let her talk. The only person's time she'd be wasting is her own

I've had Christians tell me I'm not the right kind of Christian. And according them, we'll both be roasting marshmallows over the fires of damnation.

Yeah, I bet that person wasn't just a Christian for only a few months.
That's what made it so ridiculous, she doesn't know what she's talking about.

Well, I know plenty of folks who've been Christians for years, and they still don't know what they are talking about. And newly minted Christians are often the most annoying.

Nobody really does, Shawn. There's that many religions and that many beliefs that everyone is confused.
I've had Aunts and Uncles, cousins and friends, and even my Grandfather and Grandmother try to force me into going to mass. I don't understand why people can't leave it well enough alone. I told them: If you believe in God, well good for you. I hope it helps you through the day. But I don't, and please stop forcing me to adopt your beliefs.

I believe Christians should consider adopting one of the ideas of Alcoholics Anonymous; and that is a policy of attraction versus one of promotion.

Why do you get so offended by it? Absolutes are a fickle man's folly, Shawn.
All you have to say to her is that you have your own set of opinions that do not coincide with hers, at this moment in time, but that you will keep your mind open for new information and knowledge. Ask her if she's doing the same and then you can both walk away from the issue with a mutual agreement.
My perspective is that you can't shut the door to too many things in life. You end up being a very closed off person.

Why does he get offended, Mermaid? I'm sure Shawn's not going around trying to shove his beliefs of Atheism down his sister's throat. So she should have the common courtesy to extend him the same luxury.

This reminds me of that young girl who used to be on here all the time who had been a Christian for like two months and was trying to tell everyone what was right or wrong, but could never offer more than "I've not been a Christian long enough to know why, but I know it's wrong."
According to my mom and both grandmothers, every problem that I have stems from not believing in god.

My problems stem from not having a girlfriend. Blech. I bet we have the same issues, too - is your mother constantly harping at you? It sucks, and I love her too much to break her dear heart.

heh, that would make things so much simpler, wouldn't it? I wasn't going to get in this thread, but I had to comment on that.
