day dream of the dark angel boy
He ran his fingers through the round smooth pebbles of gray, red, and deep blue, covering the shore. the water, sweeping over stones and toes time after time, informed the area of its presence with the intrusive aroma of salt. he picked up a small black rock with white lines through it, rounded corners made it safe in his pocket so that he could forever remember that evening. he sighed and stretched. a few more minutes, and he would walk barefoot back home. he would first watch the sun go down. He glanced up to see a bright glow along the horizon, making a unique sunset of the likes that he had never before observed. He stood up and walked until the ocean water came half way to his knees. Staring out onto the pale golden glow, numbness slowly overtook his toes, ankles, and lower legs, over several minutes. Waves of teal with orange and yellow streaks from the sun broke forcefully upon his body.
A sudden change of humidity informed him of what he suspected to be an incoming storm. He could feel the rain before it even fell. Looking up, expecting to see thick menacing clouds, he was surprised to see nothing but sky. The once peaceful water seemed to breath out, expanding slowly and steadily. He took several hasty steps back, until he was several feet from the strange current. Once distracted, now he had time to look up and see the golden aura of light for what it was. Thousands of winged men, seemingly built of pure light, flew silently inches above the disturbed water, causing no more effect on it than a water strider. Wielding broadswords just as bright as their luminescent bodies, they tore the air flying past him in chaotic frenzy, rearranging constantly, in synchronized madness. He turned to his left just fast enough to see a dark winged boy smiling at him as he passed, the only one without golden wings. As quickly as they had come, the angels were gone. He walked home in quiet contemplation of the events that had occurred. Day dream, imagination, it was the only explanation.
With his mind in sky and his feet on the ground, he didn’t even recognize the smiling boy as he walked past him.
