two hours from home
All of a sudden the monotony is broken. Out of a desert filled with lifeless sand and sad shrub, life springs. From the highway it is a distant view, mass is in session, green hands of fervent followers raise to the sky, seemingly in an eternal praise to the hard life, but life no less, they have been afforded. So many in attendance but only one name resounds; Joshua. These enduring trees fill nature’s chapel, lined with walls and pillars of precariously stacked granite, one can only bask in the wonderment of how it all came to be. The sights are much of what make Joshua Tree, indeed the place it is known to be, but to remain in the car and simply view it all through a pane of glass leaves too much of the experience in Joshua Tree. Rather carry something home with you, wander the vast, pristine expanse, see the dark hues of black and gray that night paints overhead, but most importantly, lose yourself there, if only for a time. But I promise you, when life is too much to handle, Joshua Tree, in all its simplicity, will be there to find your balance once again.
