Poem - Untitled
I heard the rain falling,
Imagined the driblets of water
Rushing down the window.
Rising from the bed is hard,
The pain shooting through me.
Outside the sun is shining.
I heard the phone ringing.
Imagined the phone shaking
Screaming for me to answer.
Reaching for the phone is hard,
Fear causing my hands to tremble.
There is no one on the other end.
I heard you calling me.
Imagined your eyes soft with longing
Hands tracing down my back.
Finding the gravestone is hard,
So many names echo lost memories.
Your stone stares back silent.
I heard the earth breaking,
Imagined it crumbling down
Your beautiful face untouched.
It is hard pulling you out,
Your body is heavy with decay.
You do not hug me back.
I heard you moan under my touch,
Imagined some a quiver of longing.
Your slender hands I kiss.
It is hard to pull away,
The men are screaming for help.
A pile of bones lay down.
I heard you saying you’re sorry,
Imagined you signing in at the desk.
The nurse lets you in with a smile.
It is hard being here alone.
The people walk aimlessly.
White shoes clap on the cold floor.
I heard you whispering good night,
Imagined your hand turning off the light.
Crawling into bed with me once more.
It is hard to swallow these pills.
They are stuffed in my pillow, so white.
I am coming for you my love.
