The Rider Griggs story

Chapter One
The Beginning

I’m not really sure where to start. My life up until now has made complete sense. I think, maybe, the night I left home was where this all started. You’re probably wondering what I’m talking about, so I guess I’ll explain. My name is Wyatt, everyone I know calls me Rider. It’s a nickname that one or two people start and then everyone catches on and calls you it as if its your real name.

I’m not sure of the year anymore, I lost count so many years ago. I think it was somewhere in the two thousands. Maybe 2010, or something. Anyway, it’s been a while since I have kept track of the year. It has to be about 2020 or 25. I’m stuck on the subject now, it’s really making me nuts. Maybe I’m already nuts.

Well, getting back on track now, it had to be June or July. School had just ended for the year and I was as free as free could be. I had graduated high school and didn’t have to attend another year of school. But College, that was the problem. My parents always wanted me to go, so I couldn’t let them down. I was the youngest child and only boy out of four other girls before me.

That summer was really one to remember. It’s when I finally figured out why I always felt like I didn’t fit in my family. It’s because I was adopted. After my parents had the fourth girl, my mother couldn’t birth anymore. That’s what the doctor told me when I finally figured out I was adopted. Eighteen years old and I had just been told. I was a wreck, but somehow sort of relieved.
I looked like my family, blond hair, brown eyes, the whole package, but I always felt like I didn’t belong. I never even thought I was adopted. I’m getting off track again, I’ll probably do that a lot.

My father and mother sat across from me while we sat at the dining room table. Neither of them wanted to be the first to speak, and neither did I. My arms were folded on the table and I leaned forward. They always hated when I did it, but they paid no attention to my arms. They were more focused with the honest truth of how they adopted me.

Obviously, I didn’t want to hear it, but I sat and listened. They always taught me respect and I wanted to give as much as possible. Without them telling me I removed my arms from the table and sat up straight.

“Wyatt,” my mother started. She never called me Rider, she was the only one that didn’t, “we have to tell you who your parents were.”

“I would say so,” I muttered and sort of rolled my eyes. I wanted to be respectful, but my natural cockiness always found its way through.

“Your father left your mother when he found out she was pregnant,” my mother continued, “she was left to take care of you, but couldn’t.”

“She asked us to adopt you,” my father interrupted, “she was my sister after all.”

I didn’t really want to hear anymore, my rude side took over and I was out of my chair and out of the door before I could even think about hesitating. It wasn’t until I was outside and walking towards the woods in the back of the house that I realized what I had done. I stopped abruptly and began to turn back, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

You’re still probably wondering what the big deal is, to be honest, I have no idea. My real dad was just another ordinary guy, but his bloodline was the big deal. He came from an ancient line that only a few were left. I don’t really know what they were called, but I do know that I’m one of them. I’ve spent the last I don’t know how many years trying to figure out answers and I have found more questions instead.

As I said before, the night I left home was where my so called “adventure” began. I ran out into the night and stopped in the dark woods. I didn’t move back or forward. I just stood there, thinking of where I should go. I decided that forward was better. I gave a wave back at my house to say goodbye and I was off deeper into the woods.

This is where I just stopped...so yeah...

Hi. I really like the story. I like how the story is told from Riders viewpoint. You should add more to it. I would really like to see where it goes. amgitti9.
