Special Agent GM
Something I wrote yesterday night. I was half asleep.
Special Agent GM
North State St 276
2400 hours
Mission: Seek and destroy Nikodim.
Agent: GM
The guard was looking at the street. There was nothing. Yawning, he went back to his chair, sat down and got out his book. The minutes passed by, nothing happening whatsoever.
“Excuse me?” suddenly an elderly voice asked. The guard looked up, and noticed an old, tired woman with gray hair, wrapped in a platok standing in front of him. She was looking at the guard, smiling a grandmother smile.
“Could you be as nice as to tell me what time it is?” she asked the guard.
“Sure.” The guard shrugged. Although he had been specifically instructed not to talk to anyone, this wasn’t in any way dangerous.
“Twelve o’clock.’’ He said “You’d better get home, miss, the
streets are dangerous.”
He received no reply, and looked up sharply. The woman had disappeared.
Shrugging, the guard went back to his book, briefly wondering why someone would ask the time and then run away.
* * *
Special Agent GM was in. The guard hadn’t suspected a thing. The old woman trick always worked.
Slowly, GM got out the mission briefing, and read it again, just to be sure.
Seek and Destroy Nikodim at North State Street 276, at midnight.
NIKODIM> Species: HobGoblin
Given Names: Nikodim Uterial Simph, ALSO known as “Bad Fat Rat.”
In possession of stolen artifacts, also wanted for destruction of kindergarten. Has especially perverted sense of humor.
WARNING: This creature is extremely dangerous and should not be attempted to be destroyed by anyone with less than ten years expirience.
Special Agent GM nodded, and put the piece of paper back into the pocket. GM was ready.
Slowly, GM started to move up the stairs, always listening to the sounds, earthly as well as spiritual. There! A far away smell. The smell of a hobgoblin.
GM looked up the stairs. Nikodim was up there, no worries. And he was expecting the Agent.
Moving up the stairs as silently as GM could, GM put a hand in the front pocket, taking out a small pistol. At least it looked like a pistol to anyone who did not know what it was.
GM, in fact, held a Grind 226.
There was shuffling upstairs, and suddenly, the sound of running feet.
GM ran upstairs just in time to see a hairy creature disappear into one of the rooms.
Aiming the Grind 226 at the door, GM slowly, gently squeezed the trigger, immediately letting go.
A bright ball of light suddenly appeared at the top of the Grind 226, and moved towards the door in utter silence.
GM watched as a huge hole was burned in the door. A flick of the small button on the Grind, and the ball fell on the floor, evaporating into thin air.
Pocketing the Grind, the Agent got out a translocator. The wheel on it was spinning, indicating full readiness.
GM breathed deeply, and entered the room.
“No move!” a deep voice yelled, and GM froze. A naked, hairy, six-foot-tall creature was standing in a corner, and aiming a shotgun at GM.
“Don’t be ridiculous.’’ GM snapped “You can’t hope to kill me.”
“Me no want kill you.” Nikodim licked it’s flashy lips “Just let Nikodim go, and Nikodim will be good again.”
“Sorry, no can do.” GM said “You know the law.”
Nikodim raised the shotgun.
“You nothing.” Nikodim snarled “You who? Green agent. Easy kill.”
GM smiled briefly, and got a card out of a pocket.
Codename GM.
Special Agent.
Code of Approval 847N923k)23
“Bullshit.” Nikodim went white “They no send best agent for me! You bluffing!”
“’Fraid not.” GM sighed regretfully “Now, are you gonna go, or do we have to do this the hard way?”
Nikodim pushed the trigger.
GM was ready. After as much expirience as GM had, a shotgun was nothing remotely dangerous. GM's vest alone could protect the agent.
However, Nikodim needed to be taught a lesson.
