If anyone wants to see a story I wrote for a fiction contest I can send it to you. I think it's ok but it didn't reach the potential I had planned for it. It was my first and only story I had worked on for an extended period of time so it is pretty "green" looking.
It's a war novel I suppose you could say. It's pretty generic with the plot. Aliens (named the "creatures" due to the fact that the humans don't know much about them) come to Earth and are there only for conquest. The humans find this out the hard way and are attacked by multiple attacks (all very brutal and destructive) that nearly destroy all human life. The humans that survive in New York City form a Resistance and fight to take back their city.
I tried to add a bunch of symbolism into it and add a bunch of moral difficulties to the story. For example, the aliens are called "the creatures" because the humans don't know them and just know they don't like them. This is much like real life. We as humans tend to use propaganda and personal feelings to judge an entire people (especially during war). We tend to forget that that entire people have individuals who don't always feel the same way as the majority feel (sometimes that majority can be the minority however). No matter how enlightened we become we will always seem to hate groups and not individuals.
I think I had a lot of good ideas but just didn't portray them correctly or well enough. If you still want the story e-mail me at
