The Marian fishermen are superstitious above all others. They leave small offerings to the ocean djinn, dropping them in the water for the waves to swallow, and the ship-masts are hung with garlands of lilies that the sweet scent might tempt favorable winds.

The sea spirits, if you are to believe the stories the fishermen tell you, have the power to grant wishes. On the full moon, the drag of the tide pulls them to the surface and many men, still drifting on the bay in the early hours of the morning, say that they have felt the tug of ethereal hands easing their boat toward the deep.

Then, they say, the fisherman has only moments to cast out his nets. If his luck holds, they may come up soon after with some half-divine water nymph tangled within.

No one knows what they look like, the spirits. Some say that they have the scaled bodies of fish with human heads. Others hold that they are made of water, a strange brightness from within the only betrayal of their disguise. Still others claim that they are the mythical sirens.

Every Marian knows the tales, but only the wisest will tell you that interfering with the djinn is a very dangerous affair indeed.

I'm not sure if File 13 is the place for this or not. I don't know if I see myself continuing this in the near future.
